Fall Pumpkin Picking Tips

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of taking the family to visit Prospect Hill Orchards in the beautiful Hudson Valley in New York State.  You can pick your own apples, pears and pumpkins there and it is very family-friendly.    We've never been pumpkin picking before so we were very excited to see all of the different pumpkin varieties and to decide on just the right ones for our Fall and Halloween decor. The truth is that I knew very little about picking just the right pumpkins before we set out on our adventure.  I did a little research to find out how to pick a pumpkin prior to heading out.    Many of you will probably be picking or purchasing your own pumpkins now that we are heading into the month of October and the season for Halloween.  I figured you could probably use some pumpkin picking tips too. Here is what I learned about picking the right pumpkin:It is much better to pick your own pumpkin at a pumpkin patch than purchasing one at the store. … [Read more...]

What Should You Do If You Are The Victim Of Identity Theft?

The afternoon of New Year's Eve, I received a message from a bill collector on my cell phone.  I immediately called them back because I have good credit and I take my financial obligations seriously.  They went on to tell me that a cable television account that I opened in California was in collections because I had not paid the bill.  Now, there was only one problem, I've never been to California so I knew that my identity had been compromised.     After a long discussion with this collector, I found out that a woman used my maiden name and my social security number to open a cable account at least three times since 2010 in the state of California and eventually defaulted on the account.  This was shocking because I've never shared my personal information with anyone without being cautious and I couldn't believe that this had been going on for so long without my knowledge.  I really felt violated that someone had stolen my identity this way.     Since this has never happened to … [Read more...]

What Is The Key To Our Long And Happy Marriage? #SwifferEffect #Ad

*This sponsored post was written by me on behalf of Swiffer.  All opinions are 100% mine.    Many people often ask my husband and I what the key to our long and happy marriage is.  You see, we have been married for fourteen years this November and we really do have a great marriage.  I guess most are surprised that a marriage could last this long considering what the rate of divorce is in this country.     When I sit down to think about what makes our marriage so great there are many things that come to mind that make me smile about our relationship.  First and foremost, it's not a perfect one and that really is an important ingredient in this recipe for joy.  Anyone who tells you they have the perfect union is not being totally honest.  Accepting one another with all of our flaws is important and allows us to be honest with one another.     The next thing that has contributed to the longevity of our marriage is the fact that we have very open communication.  My husband and I … [Read more...]

This post is sponsored by Dove® ClearTone™ Deodorant - designed to visibly reduce underarm dark marks and even skin tone.     Today was a perfect day for me to sit down and blog about ways to solve embarrassing beauty disasters as I am currently having a mini beauty disaster of my own.  Before I begin to tell you guys all about it, let me warn you in advance that some parts of the story might fit within the category of "TMI" or "too much information."     In any case, I have combination skin which means it is oily in some places and dry in other places.  I generally try to take really good care of my face and am pretty lucky to not have many problems with acne as an adult.  Unfortunately, this is not true during that special time of the month that all of us ladies have.     Yes, I'm sorry to say that I always get a pimple or two right around the time I get my period.  This month is no different and, right on time, I quickly noticed the offensive zit right on the left side of my … [Read more...]
