When I was a little girl, I loved playing with dolls.  I remember spending hours role playing with them and pretending that they were real people.  Now that I am an educator, I realize that all of this time engaged in pretend-play was crucial to my social development.     Although I don't have any daughters of my own, I have always encouraged both of my sons to pretend-play with their toys and have never established any gender restrictions when it comes to playing with dolls or other toys.     I really like the Beatrix Girls dolls for that reason, they are very modern and colorful.  Not only are they pop stars but they’re also big romantics!
