As a Working Mom, it's always a nightmare when I have had to plan for celebrating my sons' birthdays at school. Sneak Some Me Time Into Your Day! #MomSneak #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad
Let's be completely honest, being a mom is not easy although it is very rewarding. One of the more difficult aspects of motherhood is hardly ever getting any time to yourself. Believe it or not, 97% of mothers feel that they had a lot more time to themselves before becoming mothers. Me time is a luxury for most. The reality is that most of us spend the majority of our time juggling busy schedules, holding down the fort at home, and just looking forward to even one moment of peace that we can enjoy by ourselves. Now don't get me wrong, this does not mean that we do not love our children, it simply means that we sometimes need a break. So how do we sneak some me time into our day you ask? In my home, I can often be found smuggling a tablet into the bathroom to watch some of my favorite shows on Netflix. Since you can stream your favorite movies and television programs on Netflix on just about any device, you can execute a mom sneak just about anywhere. I highly … [Read more...]
Experience Interactive Storytelling On Netflix! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad
As many of you know, I have been a Literacy Specialist in New York City public schools for over seventeen years. Throughout my tenure, I have had a first-hand look at how reading affects children positively in every aspect of their life. As a result, I am always on the lookout for opportunities for kids to improve their comprehension through creativity. Netflix has recently announced their first interactive "branching" narrative episodes Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile, where Netflix members have control over how the story develops and ultimately unfolds. Non-linear stories like these allow children to tap into their imagination and to really think about the story elements and events taking place involving the characters. My son and I recently had the opportunity to be among the first Netflix Stream Teamers to experience this interactive storytelling together. As an educator, it was so rewarding to see him so engaged … [Read more...]
Introducing Anne With An E On Netflix! #StreamTeam #Giveaway @Netflix #Ad
Are you ready for the exciting next chapter in Netflix content? I am so excited about being a part of celebrating the debut of the Netflix original series, Anne With an E, based on the beloved book series Anne of Green Gables. As a Literacy Specialist, I always enjoy when some of my favorite books are made into television series that different generations can enjoy and fall in love with. Anne With an E is a coming-of-age story about an outsider who, against all odds and many challenges, fights for love and acceptance and her place in the world. Set in Prince Edward Island in the late 1890s, the series centers on Anne Shirley (Amybeth McNulty), a young orphaned girl who, after an abusive childhood spent in orphanages and the homes of strangers, is mistakenly sent to live with an aging sister and brother. Over time, 13-year-old Anne will transform the lives of Marilla (Geraldine James) and Matthew Cuthbert (R.H. Thomson) and eventually the entire small town in which they … [Read more...]
Tackle Those Tough Conversations With Your Teen! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad
My oldest son will be graduating from the eighth grade this June. He has always been very independent and wise for his age even when he was younger. Now that he is a teenager, we have open conversations about earning privileges and how getting older comes with a lot of responsibility. There are many hard-to-discuss topics around sexuality and current events that have been made much easier in part thanks to having access to an educational platform like Netflix. Some of the mature themes that are explored through Netflix original series like One Day At A Time and the dark comedy depicted in A Series of Unfortunate Events have lent themselves organically to some of our most in-depth conversations. The question that arises with most parents as their kids get older like my son, is how to identify when their kids are ready to watch television shows that contain mature themes or content. Much of their apprehension stems from … [Read more...]
Celebrate Family This Holiday Season! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad
The beginning of the holiday season has been a whirlwind in our household. The past couple of weeks have included parent-teacher conferences at my school and the hustle and bustle of planning for Thanksgiving. As if all that wasn't enough, both of my sons came down with strep throat and my younger one even got an ear infection to boot. Basically, I've been running around like a chicken without a head and we have tried to keep the joy in everything we are doing despite some of these bumps in the road. I've really enjoyed being able to spend quality time with my family and those who truly matter in my life. We always get together to celebrate the holidays and, for the past two years, it has become a tradition to spend Thanksgiving at my sister's house. Not only do we always have a great time, but I love not having to cook and just showing up to eat every year. My sister is an amazing cook and she always prepares a feast for all … [Read more...]
