Make Your Community A Better Place! #StateFarmAyuda #SFNeighborhoodAssist @StateFarm #Ad

*This is part of a sponsored collaboration with Latina Mom Bloggers and State Farm.  However, all opinions expressed are my own.     As many of you know, I have been teaching middle school students in the inner city for the past thirteen years.  The community that I teach in is full of life and made up of families who have come to this country looking for better opportunities for themselves and for their children.  Unfortunately, these families often struggle with poverty and end up making a lot of sacrifices to just be able to eat on a daily basis.     I've often thought about all of the ways that I would be able to support and improve conditions in this community if only I had the financial means to do so.  ¡Ojalá!  This will now be possible for many Hispanic communities across the United States and Canada thanks to State Farm Neighborhood Assist® grants.     For the third year in a row, the youth-led neighborhood assist program has inspired and empowered people to focus on … [Read more...]

What Can You Do To Improve Your Community? #MealsPerHour @Toyota #Sponsored

*This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Stiletto Media. All opinions are 100% mine. Last year, Hurricane Sandy ripped through the East Coast and had a profound impact on the lives of us New Yorkers. After witnessing so much devastation caused by this disaster, many of us were left with questions about how to prioritize our lives and how to support and improve the communities that we lived in. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes a tragedy to cause people to take a step back and make changes for the better. You don't even have to make drastic changes in your life in order to improve your community for yourself and the rest of its residents. In my neighborhood, we are all very concerned with the quality of life that our children have. It is important that they be able to play outdoors and be safe within a clean environment. The homeowners in our community take special care to clean the sidewalks and curbs in front of their homes to make sure that garbage and debris … [Read more...]

Brighten The Day Of A Deserving Mom This Mother’s Day! #JohnsonsBabyCares

*This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Johnson's Baby and Latina Bloggers Connect. All opinions are 100% mine.     I met my good friend Lauren almost seven years ago.  From the moment I met her, she always made it clear that she wanted to have children one day.  From the way that she has interacted from the beginning with my own boys, I knew right away that she would make a great mother.  She is very affectionate and loving towards them and thinks nothing of rolling up her sleeves and sitting on the floor to engage them in any activity.     A few years ago, Lauren gave birth to her daughter Carmela and she proved to me right away that I had been right about her being a great mom all along.  She immediately immersed herself into motherhood and did everything in her power to be the best parent for her daughter.  Shortly thereafter, she gave birth to her son Mateo who completed her life and they couldn't be a happier family.     Unfortunately, she has had to … [Read more...]

Win A Donation To A Local Food Bank In Your Own Community! #HormelFamily

Every year, my husband and I give a turkey away for Thanksgiving and for Christmas.  Since he works at a produce market, his employers give him two large turkeys for both holidays and we figure it's the least we could do by paying it forward to some deserving families during the season.  There is nothing like the feeling one gets when doing something for someone in need.  It really is one of the most rewarding feelings in the world.     Years ago, when we were still dating, my husband and I went out with members of his mother's church to feed homeless people during the holidays.  It was scary for me at first because I did not know what to expect when crawling under some of the bridges and underpasses where homeless people seek refuge.  Believe it or not, these people are just like you and I except that they fell upon some hard times.  The people we fed were so thankful to have a hot meal and even enjoyed having some conversation and companionship.     The holidays are the perfect … [Read more...]

The Impact Of Education On My Life-Neutrogena® Wave for Change® #WaveForChange

Education has always been a very important part of my life from as far back as I can remember.  I was raised by both of my parents and my father has always been a manual worker while my mother stayed at home to raise us kids.  Although my father always worked hard, there never seemed to be enough to go around when it came to supporting a family of five.     Don't get me wrong, we never went without eating but there were some scary times when we didn't know where the rent money was going to come from or how we were going to get basic school supplies to start school in the Fall.  As a result, my parents always encouraged all of us to do well in school and to pursue higher education.  They made it clear to us that having a career would ease some of the financial burden that we had seen them go through in our childhood.     For the third year in a row, the Neutrogena® Wave for Change® campaign is bringing hope to thousands of kids in need.  For every Wave for Change® video view on … [Read more...]
