Embrace Your Inner Unbreakable With Kimmy Schmidt! #StreamTeam #KimmySchmidt @Netflix #Partner

Being a parent is not for the faint of heart.  This is especially true at the beginning of parenthood when mom and dad are still trying to adjust to their new identities as caretakers of another human life.  After a while, most of us realize that we can't let this experience break us and we figure out how to juggle everything that involves being a parent including changing diapers, making meals, and basically doing everything to keep our little person alive.     This month on Netflix, we are introduced to a hysterical comedy series called Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, starring Ellie Kemper who is a woman that is rescued from a doomsday cult and starts life over as a nanny for a socialite in New York City.  She's definitely in for the experience of her life when she arrives armed with only a backpack, a comical pair of light-up sneakers and some overdue library books.  It's safe to say that she was unprepared to tackle this new world that she had no idea even existed.     Kimmy … [Read more...]

Celebrate Your Favorite Furry Friend! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad

I'd been trying to convince my husband to get a pet for our family for years.  Three years ago, he finally gave in and we all went to adopt a dog from our local rescue shelter.  We wanted to save the life of a pet that might otherwise be euthanized due to the limited space that there is at shelters.     Also, we knew that we were guaranteed to get a healthy pet from a shelter because most shelters examine and give vaccinations to animals when they arrive, and many spay or neuter them before being adopted.  As soon as we arrived, we knew that we had made the right decision.     As we were walking around all the dog cages, a cute black puppy caught our eye.  I guess we made an impression on him too because he started biting the newspaper that was lining the bottom of his cage and spitting it at us to get our attention.  After playing with him for a little while, we immediately fell in love and promptly adopted "Onyx" and, as you can see from the photo above, the kids and I weren't … [Read more...]

As many of you know, I've been a Literacy Specialist for over fifteen years.  When it comes to literacy and language acquisition, there aren't many subjects that are as near and dear to me as this one.  I've always been a huge advocate of programs and toys that provide children with the educational opportunities to enhance their academic skills.  Since both of our boys were babies, we have always monitored their television viewing and made sure that they watch programs that have some kind of educational value.     Recently, we were very excited to find out that Kabillion, the free on-demand kids' TV network, is offering downloads of popular Kabillion series like Chloe's Closet, Dive Olly Dive, and ToddWorld for instant streaming.  Let's face it, with 75% of today’s kids in the United States having access to some type of mobile device it's very convenient to be able to stream quality kids' content right to their electronic devices.     Kabillion’s vast library of educational and … [Read more...]

We Are Hooked On “Once Upon A Time” On @Netflix #StreamTeam #Partner

*I participated in a campaign on behalf of Netflix. As a member of the Netflix Stream Team, I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.     As the end of Summer approaches, I look back upon the past two months with many memories that were made.  Our family spent time outdoors and enjoyed some quality time indoors as well.  Every single moment was precious because we spent the time together and we enjoyed each other's company.  Usually, I am the one who is really good here at choosing shows and movies for us to watch but this year, my eleven year old son has gotten us all hooked on the series Once Upon A Time which is currently available on Netflix.     As he explained to premise behind the show to me, I realized that this program would be right up my alley as a Reading Teacher.  You see, its plot centers around the fairy tales that we all know and love from our childhood.  All of the characters in the show are the future versions of famous fairy tale … [Read more...]

*I participated in this campaign as a Peanuts 50 Years on TV Brand Ambassador.  I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.  All opinions are 100% my own.     One of my fondest memories from my childhood is sitting around the television set every Christmas season to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas.  It was something that my siblings and I looked forward to every year as we embraced the holiday spirit and cherished our time together as a family.  Now that we all have our own children, we are trying to pass down this family tradition to our kids so they can also have the fond memories that we do of these times.     Peanuts Worldwide is kicking off a year-long celebration of 50 years of A Charlie Brown Christmas! December 2014 marks the 50th time the beloved special will air on television.  As a Peanuts Ambassador, I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Jill Schulz, 56, the youngest of Charles M. Schulz’s five children, with bloggers around the … [Read more...]

*I participated in a campaign on behalf of Netflix. As a member of the Netflix Stream Team, I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.     Although Summer Vacation began this past week here in New York City, parenting is a 24/7 job!  That is why taking time out for yourself helps keep you strong for your family. This month I'm switching gears and making the focus some time to myself for a change.     Most of my favorite shows are on hiatus, but Netflix has a selection of titles to get me through the summer months. And yes, that includes all-new episodes of some of my favorite Netflix originals -- Orange Is the New Black season 2 launched June 6th!  I plan on waiting until the kids are asleep for the night and then relaxing with one of my favorite new shows. Here are some of the titles I have heard about but I haven't yet had time to watch but plan to this Summer: 1. Orange Is the New Black 2. Scandal 3. Pretty Little Liars 4. Sherlock 5. Take A Stroll Down Memory Lane! #StreamTeam #NetflixKids @Netflix #Ad

*I participated in a campaign on behalf of Netflix. As a member of the Netflix Stream Team, I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.     As I'm planning my son's First Communion party in a couple of weeks, I find myself feeling nostalgic and reminiscing about when I was his age and I celebrated this sacrament with my parents and family.  Being a parent certainly forces you to take many trips down memory lane as you experience milestones and rites of passage with your own children that you went through yourself.     I can recall what a wonderful day it was and how much fun we all had together. My parents had a party for me at a Spanish restaurant and I can still smell all of the delicious foods and hear the music that they played during the party.  The adults all sat around the table and talked while the kids danced around and played all around them.  This is exactly the image that I plan to see during my son's celebration next month, a happy smiling face … [Read more...]

Connect With Your Favorite Novela Characters Anytime! #MyNovela @Univision #Giveaway #Ad

This post was created in partnership with the Stiletto Blogger Network and Univision. However, all opinions expressed herein are my own.       Ever since I was a little girl, I can remember how beloved novelas/soap operas were in our home.  My Aunt, who was a teacher, would use the VHS to record her favorite stories during the day when she was at work and unable to watch them.  In the evening, my sister and I would sit with her captivated by the intriguing characters and their dramatic lives.  This is exactly what initially drew me to watching the telenovela Lo Que La Vida Me Robo on Univision, its colorful protagonists and their complicated drama.     My favorite character, and the one whom I can relate to the most, is Montserrat Mendoza.  She is the female protagonist who is a a young noble woman, willing to make any sacrifice for her family.  Unfortunately, she carries the financial future of her entire family on her shoulders and has to marry into money in order to … [Read more...]

This post was created in partnership with the Stiletto Blogger Network and Univision. However, all opinions expressed herein are my own.     If you are like me, you love shows with the reoccurring themes of power, love, family, betrayal and wealth.  Add these themes to a novela/soap opera and you have gotten my immediate attention.  That is why I just can't stop watching “Lo Que La Vida Me Robó” which is a Mexican novela that is set in a colorful village called Aguazul. Don't just take my word for how juicy their story lines are, go peruse some previews of the show on the dedicated novelas video page.     You will be introduced to protagonists who are driven by some of the same hopes and aspirations that you and I have.  Just like in real life, these characters are faced with adversity along with the intrusions of controlling parents and competitive friends who revel in stirring up drama, instigating financial hardships and generally making life seem impossible at times.  Not only … [Read more...]
