I have been a New York City public school teacher for over fifteen years. During my tenure, I cannot begin to tell you how many times I had to purchase school supplies for my classroom out of my own pocket. It is an unfortunate truth that most public schools are lacking the necessary resources to help their students be successful academically.
Thanks to the Box Tops for Education program, many schools are gaining much needed supplies. As you gear up for back to school, Walmart is definitely the place where you should be shopping because you can give directly back to your community at the same time! You can find Box Tops on anything from your favorite cereals to easy meals.
Box Tops for Education makes it easy to give back to schools on your everyday purchases. Simply look for the Box Tops label when you shop General Mills products at Walmart. Your school will receive $.10 for every box top you clip and send! In addition to the $0.10 per Box Tops, you earn 4 more ($.50!)
My sons’ school has participated in the Box Tops for Education program for a few years already and the benefits that they have reaped have been amazing. We just received an email from their school’s Principal this summer that they have been able to secure additional laptops to support learning due to all of the Box Tops that our school community has collected.
As you can see, we love using General Mills cereals as math manipulatives too. My ten year-old son is struggling with learning his times tables so we have been using Cheerios™ to help him figure it all out. Being able to use these to count and to visualize the numbers has been a great help to him. This is an added bonus to eating these great cereals and to using them to collect Box Tops.
Make sure you visit your local Walmart, shop General Mills’ products and then clip, send and earn!
Let’s Discuss: How do you think your child’s school would benefit from collecting Box Tops for Education?

I remember using candy and every different sort of food learning math when I was younger. Brings back memories. 🙂
It is such a shame that it’s so hard for teachers, students and schools to get what they need. I know teachers that have paid out of pocket for things for years. Our school collects Box Tops and they can really add up.
Having visual aids really can help concepts sink in. I think this is a great idea!
Love the idea of using Cheerios for math!! It is so much easier to learn math visually.
I love that Box Tops is even available to homeschool consortium! I used to be the coordinator at my son’s old school. Great on-going program.
This is so smart. I never even thought of using cheerios for math. Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios are a staple here. We eat them daily. I will look for the Box Tops for education deal for sure. What a great idea!
We have a small school and very little extra funding. This program would really help out the staff and students. Love Cheerios.
My son loves collecting Box Tops! We use food for math, as well as Legos!
Box Tops for Education is such a great program. It’s sad that’s the way it is, I know several teachers that have spent their own money for supplies.
I am a Box Tops for Education Coordinator and every contribution counts. We have purchased art supplies, musical instruments, new tables and more with our funds.
My teacher friends all have to buy school supplies for their classrooms–unfortunately. I’ll be sure to pass this info on to them.
The idea of using Cheerios for promoting math skills is quiet amazing and a fun way to get your kids involved in to it. The Box Tops for Education is a great program to help many schools who are in need of supplies!
We are all about collecting box tops! My daughters school has a contest so it’s actually kinda fun collecting them.
