5 Tips For Getting Your Family Ready For Back To School! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Partner

I cannot believe how quickly the summer is over!  In less than one week, students will be getting ready for back to school here in New York City.  Honestly, it is a bitter-sweet time for me because I relish every moment that I get to spend with both of my boys during summer vacation.  As a Working Mom, I have to try to take advantage of the opportunities that I have to enjoy some quality time with them.     No more letting them get away with staying up past their bedtime or sleeping in every morning.  It's time to get their brains working and their creative juices flowing so they can start the academic year off on the right foot.  That is exactly what I love so much about Netflix, its movies and television shows allow me to get them back into school mode while making them think that they are just having fun.  Don't tell them but, they are actually learning something while watching these programs. Here are five tips for getting … [Read more...]

Tips For Tackling Tough Laundry Stains For Working Moms! #OxiClean #Partner

To say that I am a busy mom is an understatement.  As I like to explain when people ask, I'm literally going all the time between having a career as a full-time educator, publishing a successful blog, and raising children in New York City.  Most days, I am lucky to fit in some "Me" time just to take a shower so I often do get backed up when it comes to doing laundry.     It is especially frustrating when I have trouble getting stains out of clothes because I just don't have a lot of time in my schedule to spend scrubbing them out of our dirty laundry.  For a long time, I have been on the lookout for a laundry detergent that removes a wide-range of stubborn, dried-on stains the first time around to maximize on the limited time that I have to do laundry.     OxiClean™ Laundry detergent truly has been the answer to my Working Mom prayers!  It saves me lots of time because it tackles stains in just one wash and does not contain … [Read more...]

Baked Carrot Cake Donuts Recipe

Pretty soon the kids will be going back to school.  This Summer, my brother and his wife moved to New Jersey.  Since my Sister in Law used to pick up all our kids from school, this year my boys will go to the after-school program for a little while until I pick them up after work.  I know that they will be starving when they get home so I will have to make sure that I have some snacks or treats for them in the house.     I've been trying to do more baking lately and both of my sons love donuts.  If I let our younger son, he would eat chocolate donuts for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I've been trying to create more wholesome donut recipes for him to enjoy when I do allow them to indulge in some baked goods.  He hates eating vegetables but he does love carrots so I thought, what better way to combine his two favorite foods?     The best part about these is that they are also perfect for enjoying for breakfast. … [Read more...]

Tweet Your Best Clean #PottyHumor Jokes To @Charmin For A Great Cause! #Partner

This past Tuesday, my family and I had the distinct pleasure of attending a live comedy show that was hosted by Charmin featuring comedian and improv artist, Wayne Brady in New York City.  Aside from the fact that my husband has always been a fan of Mr. Brady, I was very excited to be a part of an event that was supporting such a great cause.  The "Keep It Clean" Comedy Show aimed to clean up potty humor so it could be enjoyed by people of all ages.      You see, for each tweet received throughout the month of September, using the hashtag #PottyHumor, Charmin will be donating $1 to Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC), up to $10,000.  As a Leukemia Survivor, I can't think of a better way for Charmin to give back in such a generous way.  RMHC provides stability and vital resources to families so they can get, and keep, their children healthy and happy through programs like Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald Family Room and … [Read more...]

5 Ways Teachers Can Impact Their Students

As a teacher, you probably want to impact your students as positively as possible. Although you go to work and it can feel just like any other job, there are ways you can impact your students. Don’t get stuck in a rut, use these tips to keep impacting the students of our future. #1. Show You Care     Asking your students how they are is just one way you can show them you care. Go above and beyond and show them you care. For example: if a student drops his/her textbooks help pick them up. If your student is having a bad day, take the time to listen. If they ask for extra help, show them you care by spending the extra time teaching/tutoring them. #2. Spend Time Answering Questions     There are always those students who have extra questions. They don’t quite learn at the same pace as the other students and that’s okay. Spend time answering the questions of those students and you will impact them more than you ever thought possible. #3. Serve … [Read more...]

A Teacher’s List Of Must-Have Items For Back To School #BackToSchool @Puffs #Ad

Since most of you are parents, I'm sure that you receive a list of back to school supplies every single year from your child's teacher.  My sons actually receive their lists in June so that we have the whole Summer to purchase them for when they return to school in September.       Since I have been an educator for over fifteen years, I have devised my own list of must-have items for back to school.  You may be surprised that some of the items that I consider to be a necessity don't fall into what are considered to be conventional school supplies.     Over the years, I have realized that keeping kids healthy when they go back to school is also very important.  Every year I notice that my students get sick during the first few months of the school year.  This happens because they spend a lot of time in the classroom around other children who often sneeze and catch colds as the seasons change from Summer to Fall. … [Read more...]

Join Us For The Coca-Cola #ForTheDream Education Bilingual Twitter Party! @CocaCola #Ad

*This is part of a sponsored collaboration with Dime Media and Coca-Cola.  However, all opinions expressed are my own.     I can still remember all of the educational goals and dreams that I started mapping out for bot of my sons from as early as when they were in my womb.  Education is a central focus among Latino families with so many planning for their child to be the first to attend college in the United States. This summer Coca-Cola and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund teamed up to make a difference and help more families achieve their education goals. The #ForTheDream program is helping Latino families and students prepare, plan and pay for their college education, and raising awareness of the college resources available to them.     Through this summer’s #ForTheDream movement Coca-Cola will donate $1 for every social post up to $10,000 to the Hispanic Scholarship! To add to the excitement Coca-Cola is also hosting the #ForTheDream … [Read more...]
