This time of the year is very special because it honors all the moms and dads through the celebration of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Although parents make many sacrifices for their children throughout the year with absolutely no expectation of recognition, it’s really important to highlight what a wonderful job they are doing raising their kids. After all, who doesn’t like to hear that they are doing a good job, especially when that job is as monumental as being responsible for another human being?

I have to be completely honest, I don’t always feel like I am doing the best job possible at raising my boys. Although their father and I do everything possible to ensure that they are always safe and cared for, life events that are sometimes outside of our control have a way of making us second-guess ourselves as parents. A perfect example of that is when my nine year-old has epileptic seizures, the mother in me wants to take it all away and make it better right away but I have no control over that.

Other parents also experience parental doubt like we have. It’s natural to wonder if you are always making the right decision or choosing the right path for your children, especially when they are young. That is why I want to take this opportunity to tell my siblings, and the rest of the parents that I know, that they are doing great jobs as parents. Even during those times when they have been faced with adversity like their children’s health problems or even financial difficulties, they have always been great parents. Parenting can sometimes be a thankless job but they have always remained steadfast in their love and support of their kids.

I’m sure many of you also feel sometimes like you are not doing a good job as a parent. My job is to tell you that you that nothing could be further from the truth. These days, the demands and pressures of everyday life are immense. Keeping up with a career, a home and everything else that goes on in life can leave parents feeling imperfect – like they can’t be the mom or dad they want to be. But the truth is, most parents are doing much better than they think.

I have a friend who is raising her two boys alone. I think she is doing a wonderful job.
I was a single mom for a little bit there, too, and it is NOT easy!
I think most of us do a better job than we realize in general. Most of us are hard on ourselves unnecessarily.
I have a friend who is an ICU nurse and mom to toddler twins. She’s doing an incredible job.
My mom is doing great as a mom because she remarried and is doing a great job at being the mom of 2 step kids and her 2 real kids. She also raised 2 kids as a single parent on a teacher’s salary.
My sister has two kids, and sometimes doubts herself as a parent, she works out of the home, goes to school, and volunteers at her kids events and schools. She is a super mom i think, and she does a great job juggling it all.
My neighbor is a great mom! She has doubts, because she goes out to work every day instead of staying home. But her little boy is just a delight, so I know she’s doing a wonderful job!

My friend Victoria is raising her grandsons. She now is also taking care of a friends 3 kids, I sure couldn’t take that on. She is doing a great job!
My sister is doing a great job with triplets, I admire her so much.
My daughter, who is the mother of my two grandsons, is doing an excellent job as a mother! She shows her boys so much love and patience.
My husband is the best dad I have ever known. He will and does sacrifice his own health and comfort for his children, but he constantly worries because he can’t provide them with everything he would like to. They live in Honduras and are very poor, but he has brought up three really wonderful children.
My niece is a single mom of 3 who works and takes care of her kids and I think that in spite of her situation, she’s #doingood and being an amazing Mother and providing the best she can yet I don’t know if she realizes it.
My best friend is an amazing mom to two kids. I don’t think she gives herself enough credit.
My sister is a great Mom to her daughter and son. She is going through a heartbreaking ordeal with my nephew who is only 2 has a brain tumor. He is getting chemo, and I am amazed at all her patience and love for him, and how she manages to keep up with her daughter and her schooling during this difficult time. She is an inspiration to me!
My mom is doing way better than she thinks. She always worries that because she can not help financially that she is not helping. However, she has taught me to be a hard worker and that is far more important to me.
My wife is always hard on herself about her parenting choices. She just doesn’t realize what a good job she is really doing.

My stepdaughter just had a baby five months ago, and she is already becoming such a great mom! i am so proud of her.
My sister. She has a son who is 13 now, and has low functioning autism. She was told he would never talk when he was younger, but she never gave up. He is now talking and loves being on the computer. She has daily therapists at the house, he has to be fed through a feeding tube, and needs 24 hour constant supervision. She does such an amazing job on a daily basis!
My sister doesn’t have any children but if she did have kids she would be a great mom. She has been there for my kids when they were born. She lectures and spoil my kids. My kids have lots of love and respect for her. She’s their favorite Aunt.
My cousin is a single mom of three that doesn’t receive child support. She works in a nursing home and takes great care of her kids and enrolls them in sports to keep them active
i would say my mom! she is a great mom to us!
My friend from college is doing a great job. She works difficult hours with her job, yet still spends quality time with her daughter and teaches her good values.
Every parent I know does a great job. We are not perfect but parenting along with all the other duties can be tough.

My daughter is doing a wonderful job with her son. She is a widow and has raised him by herself since he was one month old. She is a great mom and has taught him manners and values. I know he’ll be a good man when he grows up because of her.

I have so many friends who are parents and don’t think they’re doing the best job ever. I feel like we’re ALL doing better at this parenting gig than we think. It’s a tough job!
I have so many friends who are single parents, but I have a friend right now who just lost her SO and I want her to know that she’s doing an amazing job parenting through loss, pain, grief, and all those emotions. She’s doing so much better than she think she is. Gosh I need to call her right now.

I think it’s just human nature to doubt ourselves but as long as we’re doing the best we can we are phenomenal parents. At least I think I am. 🙂

Aw, this is sweet! I think most parents are doing better than they think they are. Parents are pretty hard on themselves.
My husband often worries whether he’s doing a good job with our son. I think he’s fantastic, and our son idolizes him. He’s gentle, patient and strong.
My friends children are all grown up now but there wasn’t a onr of them who had doubts about whether they were doing a great job at parenting. Well, the proof is in the pudding–all the kids are now well functioning adults!
I sure feel like I’m doing a sloppy job. Between a full-time job and blogging, it’s easy to neglect many important things, but I remind myself that nobody is perfect and I am doing it for my family
We always question our parenting, especially when you make a decision and you’re not sure if it was the best; it’s a great learning experience!
I think first time parents worry so much about everything that they probably do put too much stress on themselves. I know my husband and I did. And then when they are grown, you worry if something you did or didn’t do might have contributed to any issues they are having. In the end, you just have to make sure you make educated decisions and trust your gut.
My co-worker is doing a darn good job- single mother, 2 jobs and the kid is happy as ever.
We are our worst enemy, critic and so much more. I often think I have failed but then my kids make me see I haven’t. It’s such a learning experience
I have a wonderful friend who had the same man in her life for many years. They had two children. They separated when the kids were 16 and 12. That was a year ago. She thinks she’s messing everything up doing it all on her own, but I think she’s doing an amazing job.

My niece has been through many difficult times. She always worries about being good mother to her children. She may not be able to give them all the material things they want, but she is there for them all the time, supporting them in sports, at school and other things. She is a great mom.
My sister in law Gail is a super wonderful Mom of 7 children/stepchildren. She’s such a caring, giving, patient and wonderful person and she gives everything of herself to her kids.
As far as someone other than myself, I would have to say one of my very good friends is doing a much better job than she thinks. She is really struggling with her children right now and thinks she’s a horrible mom and that’s so not true. She’s amazingly strong because I sure could not handle what she is dealing with!

I think that every parent I know is probably doing a better job than he/she thinks. Almost everyone has doubts about their parenting skills.
I think that this describes many moms I know. IT is easy to find the things that we struggle with, and not take the time to praise the things we do well.

I think my husband deserves more credit then what he gets. We works hard and is gone 5 days a week from his family. I know he misses us and would rather be home.

My son has been raising three children by himself for almost 3 yrs. A 15 yr old son and two daughters, 8 and 10. He puts in long hours at work to provide for them and they’re all doing fine. I am so very proud of him!!
