My familia, or family, is at the center of everything that I do every single day. Their love and support inspires me to sacrifice everything that I can in order to guarantee that they have the best opportunities that life has to offer. This foundation was laid decades ago by my grandparents and great-grandparents who threw caution to the wind and traveled to distant lands so that their descendants could benefit from some of the things that they did not have access to such as education and democracy.
My paternal great-grandparents in Spain.
On my father’s side, my paternal grandparents migrated to Venezuela from Spain to have access to gainful employment so they could provide for their two children, my Dad and my Aunt. Although it was difficult to make the transition to a new country, away from all their family and friends, they sacrificed and saved all their money in order to come to the United States. Once here, they made sure that their children had access to the best education possible and they instilled their morals and work ethic in both of their kids.
These values have been passed down to my siblings and I which motivate us to persevere and to work towards accomplishing our goals for the good of our families. My sons are being taught that, in life, you have to work hard for what you want. Additionally, they are learning that getting a good education is a non-negotiable in our home and that getting good grades are the keys to opening the doors to their futures. La cultura, or culture, that we have been raised with is being passed down from generation to generation.
“When You Need That Final Push To Keep Going…”
Winners can come in many forms and Disney’s McFarland is a prime example of that! Based on the true story of a 1987 cross country team from predominantly Mexican-American McFarland High School, in McFarland, California, the film stars Kevin Costner as Jim White, the school’s coach, who leads the team to win a state championship.
The movie revolves around the idea that family and inspiration are the ingredients that were needed to motivate these unexpected athletes to victory. The story is not only about one person’s triumph, but rather how an entire community was inspired to keep reaching for their dreams in a new country also. This true story, McFarland USA, will be available for the first time on Blu-ray Combo Pack and Disney Movies Anywhere this June!
Who motivates you to be your best? Check out Disney’s McFarland USA for a true inspiration and make sure you connect with them on Facebook to learn more about this story of family support and determination!

We missed this movie in the theaters – didn’t realize it was out on DVD already! Having lived close to the high school that was featured in the film, we really want to watch it!
I am looking forward to seeing McFarland USA. It sounds like such an inspirational movie and one that has many lessons about fighting for what you want, team work and the importance of finding someone who believes in you.
I really want to see this movie. I worked closely with athletes at the high school level for over 20 years in Los Angeles so this is of particular interest to me. My parents were always and still are very supportive in whatever their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren do that has always been a motivating factor to set goals and accomplish them.
My family inspires me by always being there for me! I think staying close through thick and thin is the key!
As I am 65 years old, nobody pushes me to do anything! When I was young, as I was a girl. I really wasn’t pushed to do anything!
i want my kids to so well, and I want them to always go for their dreams
This looks like such and inspiring movie. We always encourage our kids in all that they do. Anything is possible.
I push myself mostly for my family. I want them to be happy and have things I never had when I was young. And I want to make sure I can take care of them
They are always there for me and for one another, as it should be. 🙂
I always encourage my kids to be who they want to be and be happy with what they choose to be and don’t let anything hold them back.

My children inspire me daily! Great giveaway!
They sacrificed so much for me that I couldn’t let my parents down, that’s they way my family ‘pushed’ me to succeed. And for me, I want to be able to provide my kids with the opportunities I didn’t have.
My mother is there as an encouragement and when I need help she’s there to help me along my journey.
I loved McFarland USA! I’m going to have to watch it again now that it’s on DVD!
I can not believe I haven not seen this yet. I need to make sure I see this sometime soon. I know I would love it.
My mom encourages me to dream big and then plan it out, like how am I going to make those dreams happen. If I’m struggling she’ll try and suggest different routes. She’s done so much for me, I just hope to make her proud.
I want to be the best mom I can be to my boys. They deserve nothing less than the best. I work hard at it every day!
What a great post! My great grandparents moved here too! For my husband’s family, our children are the first generation born in this country. How inspiring. The move looks great too! I ran in school, it is really challenging, I bet it’s a really inspiring film!
My children remind me to slow down. Without them I am sure I would be in a whirlwind that would have me so crazy and barely paying attention to anything other than a career!
I am LDS and my great great great grandfather came from Nauvoo, IL to Salt Lake City with Brigham Young. He was Brigham Young’s wagon master during the trek across the plains. Thinking of him reminds me that I can overcome any trial that comes my way.
This sounds like a great movie. My mom and dad have inspired me. They taught me to always try my best and to work for what I want.
My extended family isn’t as close as I wish they were. We’re always low on their priority list. My immediate family, however, is fantastic. Even my daughters who are 12 and 10 are supportive when we want to do something. My husband I wouldn’t trade for the world. He encourages, pushes, picks me up when I’m down and does anything to help me succeed. Haven’t seen the movie yet but I really want to!
My family inspires me the most. Especially my kiddos who have been through so much and are still amazing little beings!
I love seeing old photos. You must treasure them!

My husband is always my biggest cheerleader! He wants me to succeed at whatever I try – and on those days when I don’t want to keep going, he gently nudges me (in a non-nagging way) to keep going!
My parents instilled in me early the thought that I could do whatever I put my mind to. I was the first in my family to graduate from college, and they were thrilled when I moved to Wash., DC in my 20s to make my way in the world. And now, all these years later, my hubby has always been supportive of any decisions I make on what I’d like to try & accomplish! And my children are sometimes my biggest cheerleaders, too.
My husband makes sure I continue to do things that make me happy.
my daughter inspires me to go to college and make a better life for my family.
