Homemade Meatloaf And Ketchup Recipe

meatloaf3

When I was growing up, there were certain recipes that my mother would prepare regularly that she had learned how to cook from her own mother, my grandmother.  Many times, my sister and I would come home from school and sit with her in the kitchen telling her about our day as we helped her prepare dinner.  One of her favorite recipes was for homemade meatloaf and I was always intrigued by how she mixed all the ingredients together in a large bowl and kneaded her hands throughout the mixture to blend them all together.

These are the recipes that I prepare in my own home for my children.  Not only do they remind me of happy times during my childhood, but they also help me to carry on family traditions with my boys.  They also will often descend upon me in the kitchen to tell me all about how their day went at school.  The best part is that they love meatloaf as much as I did when I was a kid and will usually clean their plates when I serve it to them.  Hopefully your family will love this recipe as much as mine does:

Homemade Meatloaf Ingredients –

1 pound lean ground beef
2 eggs
1 C. breadcrumbs
2 tbs. dried parsley
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 C. milk

Directions –

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a loaf pan using non-stick cooking spray.
Combine the ingredients and use your hand to mix well. Add more milk if too dry or more breadcrumbs if too wet.

  1. This looks so delicious! I make my mom’s meatloaf recipe which my family loves too. But I love to try different recipes and I will be trying this one. Apple cider vinegar is an interesting addition and I would love to see how it makes the meatloaf taste.

I also make my mom’s roast beef recipe and chili among others.

  2. Robin (Masshole Mommy) says

Homemade meatloaf is one of my favorite meals in the entire world. I eat mine with Worcestershire Sauce instead of ketchup, though.

  3. I could come kiss you one the cheek right now. I stopped eating ketchup years ago because of the sugar. I can use agave which is a lot like honey. I am going to make this. Thanks!!!

  4. Your recipe for meatloaf is almost exactly like my mom’s! Although sometimes we’d add some cubed cheese to the mix also.

  5. This looks delicious! And I’ve never made my own ketchup; I’m going to have to try that tonight. Thanks for the recipes!

  6. Yum!! I love meatloaf especially as a sandwich with my leftovers. I can definitely use your recipe!

  7. Meatloaf is also a comfort food in our home. I love making mine with ground turkey or chicken – thanks for sharing this great recipe.

  8. Wow! This looks amazing! My husband makes a great meatloaf and it’s one of our family favorites. The recipe was passed down from his mother. I absolutely love family cooking traditions! Going to have to try your recipe, too! Thanks for sharing!

  9. What a great recipe! Sounds super easy to make, perfect for those busy nights!

  10. I love meatloaf because we had it all the time as a kid. I realized the other day I don’t make it often. Our kids were like “Whaat?” until they tried it. They all asked for seconds!

  11. One of my favorites growing up that has turned into a fave of my hubby’s is what my mom called “More”. It was a casserole dish: egg noodles, ground beef, red sauce, chili powder, peppers, corn, cheese…I’m sure I’m missing something, but you get the idea. YUMMY!

  12. Oh this looks good. Meatloaf has always been one of my favorite dishes. My mom puts bacon, cheese and hard boiled eggs inside of it as well.

  13. I remember a lot of my time was spent in the kitchen too. Both my parents were great cooks. We always tried to invent new recipes. Sometimes they turned out ok and sometimes they turned out really wrong lol.
I will always remember my mom’s scalloped potato’s, my dad’s homemade burger recipe, and my grandmothers bread pudding.

  14. I cannot seem to master anything that my mom made when we were kid. I loved loved loved her dressing and chicken and dumplings and I cannot match them.

  15. Those ingredients sound so perfect. Meat loaf is definitely a comfort food for me. I need to make this soon!

  16. I love that you put Parsley in there, very interesting. I cook my moms lasagna frequently at home for an eager crowd

  17. Meatloaf is one that was served in my house frequently–although my Mom used water and a bit of ketchup instead of the milk. I make it the way she did when I am in the mood–and yes–mixing with your hands is the only way to go! Baked chicken was another–all she used was paprika and onion and some garlic powder–I add a couple of other spices as well!

  18. Yum! Meatloaf is one of my all time faves! That looks so good. We go through so much ketchup in our house this will be awesome and come in handy!

  19. We love meatloaf and I should make it more often. Your recipe looks yummy and I am loving the recipe for ketchup! I bet that makes it so delicious. I have many fond memories of cooking with my grandmother. She made the best chicken and dumplings!

  20. My husband loves when I make meatloaf. This one looks like one he would love.

  21. My recipe is very similar. I love ketchup and meatloaf!

  22. This looks like a delicious meatloaf recipe. I will have to try making it this weekend. I have not made a meatloaf in years.

  23. Barbara Montag says

I’ve been looking for a good meatloaf recipe & this is it!
    thanks

  24. I love meatloaf! This looks so amazing. I may have to make this.

  25. This is exactly how I make my meatloaf. However, I have never tried making my own ketchup before. I am going to have to give it a try soon!

  26. I haven’t had meatloaf in a long time, but this is what I remember when I last made it. Yum.

  27. My mom also used to make meatloaf and it definitely is a comfort food that makes me nostalgic to my childhood..I know that when I have kids I will definitely make them my mom’s meatloaf recipe so they can have the same wonderful memories as I have. I’ll have to try it with the ketchup and see what my mom thinks as well…it looks yummy!!

  28. That’s sure a fine looking finished product. I have a house full of meatloaf lover here!

  29. This looks amazing. I usually make meat loaf at home but never dared to make ketchup. I did not know it was easy to make
