As the summer comes to a close in a few weeks here in New York City, I am reminded of all the fun activities that I have engaged in with my husband and sons during this time. We have fully taken advantage of the sunny and mild weather that we have had this season to spend quality time as a family and to enjoy being together outdoors.
One of our favorite activities has been going on a family picnic at a local park and nature preserve. It almost felt like everything was perfect that day, from the weather to the smiles that all of us had on our faces. Up until six months ago, my husband was working nights until he got laid off. Although getting laid off imposed some financial hardships on our family, we have adjusted and grown to relish in this newfound time that we all now have to spend with one another.

The highlight for me, and I suspect for my boys too, was their game of catch and football with my husband. After all this time of having very little time with their dad due to his hectic work schedule, I know they loved having this special time with their hero.

My son is a huge Skylander fan and we currently have all the video games. This summer we took a few trips and visited the zoos and museums. Had a lot of fun and almost don’t want summer to end although the kids are back in school. Planning on going to the state fair today which should be fun.
We had a great summer. We just got back from Disney World, so we definitely spent lots of quality family time over the 9 days we were there.
My little brother is super into Skylanders. I imagine he’ll be shoveling in the Lays once he finds about this!

We are dealing with the same thing. If there’s any time that’s good to be laid off, it’s summer!

Great pictures! We used to love going on family picnics when my kids were little. Such a relaxing way to spend the day!
I think I need to pick up Skylanders for my son. He likes interactive games like that for the Wii!
We have enjoyed bonfires at mught. We make S’mores and hot dogs and that was really a bonding experience with my kids.
I’m miss picnics with my kids. They were so much fun.
We love having picnics! And we spent a lot of time outdoors this summer as a family. I’m ready for fall though and pumpkins 🙂
I can really tell your guys love them picnics are so fun were going to meet up with a friend of my daughters this Friday and have a girls picnic.
We have not done much this summer because of the heat, we do go to the community pool because they have waterslides and diving boards. We do more when it cools off, we homeschool so lots of field trips to take! I enjoyed reading about your picnic, great photos. It’s nice to see fathers and mothers taking time out with their kids, we need more of it.
There’s some family night life out on the beach that we’ve gone to. I look forward to doing more as a family outdoors as the summer cools down.
My son hasn’t started playing with these figures, but I have a feeling it’ll happen soon. I really enjoy watching my husband play catch with my daughter. He is just starting to teach her, but she’s doing great and watching them is such fun!

My little girl would love those toys. She likes small things like that.
The children in my class are crazy about these toys. The day school closed last term, they were allowed to bring toys in for the day and all of the boys brought these in. They gathered in the corner of the classroom and began to play…God knows what…as far as I was concerned they were speaking another language. LOL
Summer fun with the family is uber important because the time is fleeting. My sons are older and when they give me a few minutes if their time I enjoy it more than they! BTW I love you blog layout!

we had lots of meals as a family, that’s how we get to spend intimate time together. We played lots of the board games too, it’s just too hot here in texas!
This was a busy summer for us. We put our house up for sale,looked for a new home and finally found one in the nic of time as we have to move by September. We spent this last week moving into our new home and the kids were a huge help in all aspects of the move.
How fun… hard to believe summer is coming to an end; it has been a super busy one but I loved our trip to germany was just me, hubby and the kids and lots of family AND best part.. NO cell phones or internet while we were there… 🙂 Talking about bonding even teh 19 year old hung out with us all day long 🙂
