This week will be the first day of August and I will be starting to schedule our sons’ appointments for physicals and vaccinations as we prepare for back to school in September.  It’s important to make sure that they are healthy and that their vaccines are up to date so that they don’t have to miss the first day of school.  As an educator, I know that sometimes children are not allowed to return to school until their health screenings and vaccinations are updated.

MinuteClinic offers a variety of back-to-school vaccinations so that your kids don’t miss their first day. It is important to know your state’s requirements for vaccinations such as meningitis and pertussis.  You can find out which vaccinations are required in your area by visiting their website and planning accordingly.

Since both of my boys play sports as well, I’m glad that they also offer pre-participation sports physicals for just $39 (that’s $20 off!). Even if it’s not required, it’s important to make sure your little ones are healthy & safe to participate.  After all, they will be taking part in physical activity as part of their weekly gym class.

MinuteClinic is also offering a FREE $22 coupon book when you visit.  You don’t even have to purchase anything and these coupons are available until December 1, 2014 or while supplies last. purchase necessary.  This will give me the perfect excuse to get a little shopping in for household essentials and back to school supplies after the kids’ appointments.  What better way to get our boys, and mommy, prepared for the first day of school!

Let’s Discuss:  What are some of the things that you are doing to get your kids ready for the first day of school?

I don’t have kids at home any longer… but, the Minute Clinic sounds like a great option for adults too. I will be needing a flu shot in a month or so.

  2. amanda ripsam says

I just take my child to see the pedictriction as her insurance covers the cost of the dr visits but this would be great for new family that just moved into town and need to get the physicals done before they could enroll their child into school.

I have 3 stepchildren and 2 daughters. Back to school for me is traumatic. I’m on mombie mode but my husband and I get all the school supplies knocked out first then we book our appointments for the kids during the last week of August. I’m not ready. I need a few more weeks of summer.

  4. This reminds me of when I had to take shots to start middle school. My son has some shots coming up but they give them at the school when they are past 5 years old.

  5. Well, I don’t have to worry about getting kids ready to go back to school but I am sure glad there are clinics around to help busy Mom’s get it done. Thee Minute Clinics also help older citizens to check blood pressure, diabetes numbers etc. It really is helpful to have them right up the hill from me-not to mention that I can run in there when I forgot something at the grocery store!

My boys both have August birthdays, so their well visits fall right before school starts. I lucked out!

We do not have this clinic over here.we just call up and go to the DR I am so thankful for our NHS system over here.

  8. I think I am more excited for my sons first day of school. The big kindergartener!!

  9. The minute clinic is great! My doctor’s office can’t usually get me in the same day if I don’t call first thing in the morning, so we use the minute clinic.

  10. We’re getting ours ready by having them practice their musical instruments so they’ll be ready for classes right away. Not rusty like the rest of the kids!

  11. Jennifer Williams says

I am a big fan of the Minute Clinic, they have helped me out more than once. As for school, we are homeschooling so I am busy trying to get the items together to make a room of the house the room for school. Of course we are also waiting on our offer on the house to be accepted so we can move!

  12. Wish we had Minute Clinics in our area, would be super handy! I need to get my little one up-to-date before he starts middle school. Where did the summer go??

  13. mail4rosey says

This is cool! We’ve been shopping here and there, but nothing too big to get ready for back-to-school yet. We’re anticipating the teacher assignments that come out next week for elementary school. My son is hoping for the teacher who has balls for seats. 🙂

  14. We love Minute Clinic. The nurse that works at the one near us also works at a Dallas Children’s Hospital and is so awesome with my son. Such a great place to take him!

  15. Rebecca Bryant says

son has his annual physical next week to get him ready for school and marching band.

  16. Outrun1986 says

We are making sure the kids have everything they need before they go back so there are no last minute distractions.

  17. What a nice resource to have! I don’t have kids but if I did, I would definitely appreciate a place like Minute Clinic where I could take my kids to get all the necessary vaccinations for school as well as sports physicals.

  18. Well, I don’t have children, but I am a teacher. And even we need to prepare for back to school as well. Mostly, that consists of purchasing comfortable outfits to wear and getting my classroom back to order.

  19. mena & taty says

Right now we are still on summer mode and not doing much for the back to school

  20. Mommy2jam says

I am so excited for school to start, I can’t tell you!!! I am making sure they are reading and my toddler is tracing letters.

  21. Danielle Stewart says

Minute clinic is probably one of my favorite places because I can go and be seen right away.

  22. My girls are scheduled to get their physical during the summer so they are ready for school.

  23. Amber Nelson says

I have scheduled all my appointments but the dentist. I still need to do that.

  24. What a great idea – sounds like it helps to make things a lot easier for all you parents 🙂 x

  25. What a neat idea. We, fortunately, can get all our physicals and vaccinations at the doctor’s office and they keep track of what we need. As of right now, we don’t really need to do anything for school as we are homeschooling and we don’t need to be “official” until my oldest is 8.

  26. Elayna ~ The Positive MOM says

Even though we don’t “go back” to school; we stay in school at home, we make sure to stay healthy at home by eating right and getting proper sleep and hydration.

  27. I have heard great things about the Minute Clinic. I not sure if we have it in our town. We mostly go to our Pediatrician for all vaccinations needs.

  28. BTS time is such an exciting time of the year. I miss it and remember it well. There is a lot to get done in the weeks leading up to the school year. My sons played sports and it would have been great having a place like this that offered the sports physicals at that cost.

  29. Amy Desrosiers says

My kids get new clothes, supplies, and they get physicals. I think it’s important to be vaccinated to prevent third world diseases from spreading.

  30. I love our local Minute Clinic they can do so many things and it beats sitting in a Doctor’s office for hours upon hours! I wish they had these when my kids were little.

  31. Thanks for sharing this information! Minute Clinics are so easy to find and use.
