When I was a little girl, my younger brother had so much Lego® that we used to build magnificent structures and pretend play for hours on end. There are just so many great memories that I associate with these building blocks that revolve around family and togetherness.
This past Easter weekend, my husband and I decided that we wanted to plan a fun family outing after attending mass in the morning. Sunday is the day that we are both off from work and our boys are off from school and it is important to be able to spend quality time together. Our destination of choice was the Legoland Discovery Center in Westchester, NY within the Ridge Hill shopping district.
Both of our boys are huge Lego® fans and have used them since they were toddlers to spend hours of fun building things together. Additionally, our eight year old son loves to watch the Lego® cartoons on television and loved going to see the Lego® movie with the rest of our nephews. Hubby and I knew that Legoland Discovery Center was the perfect place to take our sons for a day of wholesome family fun.
I really liked how interactive all of the activities at Legoland Discovery were. There really are many attractions that are appealing to both younger and older children. Our 10 year old had a great experience learning how to build a tree with birds on it by participating in the Master Model Builder class which is available just about every hour. Both of our boys loved the soft play area, the rides, and the 4D cinema.
Even my husband and I were in awe of Miniland which boasts New York’s top attractions all made from Lego. It was amazing to see Central Park, Yankee Stadium, Met Life Stadium, and the New York City Skyline. I’m sure whomever built these displays spent quite a bit of time getting every single detail just right.
We had a wonderful day at Legoland Discovery Center and are looking forward to visiting again in the near future. For those of you planning to visit with your own families, here are some things to consider:
PROS:
- Lots of activities to keep younger and older children engaged and entertained.
- All of the attractions are made entirely out of Lego® for the Lego enthusiasts in all of us.
- It’s conveniently located in Westchester County and easily accessible to anyone living in the New York Tri-State area.
CONS:
- The soft play area does not allow children who are past a certain height so your older kids might be bummed that they can’t go in and play with their younger siblings.
- Make sure you eat before you visit if you are on a budget because, although there is a café where you can purchase food and drinks, the food is a little pricey.
All in all, we had a wonderful time and spent quite a few hours there checking out all the attractions. It really is a uniquely wonderful family destination and I did not see one child or adult there that didn’t look like they were having a great time. We give it four out of five tough cookies as a must-visit family destination!
Let’s Discuss: What famous landmark would you love to see built entirely out of Lego?

I really have to find a place like that near me in Michigan I’m not sure where the closest one would be to me? My 7 year old would love it and so would her big brother.
It looks like you guys had a BLAST!! One is opening here in Boston this weekend and I HAVE to get up there with my boys – they would love it.
I have been to the Legoland in Florida a couple times. I have to say that it has been one of the most relaxing amusement parks experiences I have ever had.
I am dying to go to Legoland Florida. Crossing my fingers for good news because your outing increases my level of wanting to go!!
Very handsome boys!
I love how LEGO goes all out for their discovery centers. They’re literally a place you can spend an entire day (and we have). I like your pics!!
Looks like so much fun for the whole family. It’s amazing what can be built with Lego’s. I’d love to see the Golden Gate Bridge built from Lego’s, that would be spectacular!
The Legoland Discovery Center looks like a fun place. I wonder what the age range is? Would you say 10 and under? My hubs thought that my oldest (12) was too old for this place, but I don’t think so. He loves Legos and I’m sure would have had a great time. I would love to see the White House built from Legos.
That’s pretty cool! We have a Legoland about 45 minutes from our home now, but we haven’t been yet!
You must have had an awesome adventure. I like the lego merlin. My grandsons would love to visit Legoland.
We have been meaning to go there. We went to the Legoland Park in FL a few years back and to Lego Kids Fest last winter. We just love our Lego here!
Looks like a lot of fun! My son used to love Legos a lot.
We’ve never visited a Legoland but I think my girls would totally love seeing how much creativity can be unleashed without a box and instructions.
Woohoo Legos rock. Hubby and son are all about the legos.
We tried to visit a Legoland once with my kids, it was way to crowded for my youngest – he has a fear of crowds/strangers. I am hoping we get to go to another one though once he gets a bit older. Your kids are certainly enjoying themselves.
My son would love to go to Legoland! I think that it looks like so much fun!
Looks like you guys had a GREAT time! We took our kids to the one in KC and they loved it.
It really amazes me at what you can build with Legos!!
It’s so awesome the things that can be made with Legos! I still haven’t been to the one here in Florida but it’s on family must do list for the summer.
What awesome photo props. The pros definitely seem to outweigh the cons!
Dang, look at all those awesome Lego models! I’d love to see them 😀
We’ve been to this Legoland location and had a blast. There’s so much to do. Nice to see you enjoyed it also.
That looks like a fun place to visit! It’s crazy what people can do with Legos.
It’s pretty amazing what they manage to do with Legos. What a cool place!
I have always wanted to go to legoland with my sons, they would love it and I think I probably would too. Maybe someday we will get to go.
