Many people don’t know a lot about the Bronx aside from what they have seen on television or in the movies. This borough of New York City is often depicted in a less than favorable light and we don’t get the credit that we deserve for being full of decent and hardworking people. That is why I was so excited when I found out that Gain was coming to the Bronx to transform local neighborhood laundromats into something special. I immediately knew that this would help to spread an unexpected dose of joy throughout our community!
This past Friday, I had the pleasure of meeting Bronx-born musician Leslie Grace, who has partnered with Gain, to showcase how art, music and culture collide to celebrate the launch of six community-decorated Laundromats throughout the Bronx, Spanish Harlem and Washington Heights. We were able to see Leslie perform live and to view the beautiful artwork that children throughout each community displayed at each laundromat.
In addition to seeing Leslie Grace perform live, community members were able to view the art itself, receive Gain Flings giveaways, and take “selfies” within the art installation for a chance to win greater prizing utilizing through the Instagram sweepstakes using the hashtag #MusicToYourNose. These Portraits of Hope are infusing community pride throughout our borough of the Bronx. Make sure you visit your nearest laundromat location and participate in the Instagram ‘selfie’ #MusicForYourNose sweepstakes which runs from 5/16-6/16.
I can’t even begin to tell you what a wonderful time I had! Not only was it a pleasure and a privilege to meet Leslie Grace, but the delicious scent of Gain Flings is indescribable! Thanks to their 3-in-1 benefit of Gain Detergent, OxiBoost, and Febreeze, the new single-use detergent pac is the Best Gain Ever. They provide a powerful clean with the added power of Oxi Boost and the benefit of malodor removal of Febreze and they give you even more of that amazing Gain scent you love! It’s a laundry experience unlike any other – it’s like Music to Your Nose!

I think it is a great idea! I have not been to a laundromat in quite some time but they always seemed so dull and boring!
I love this idea, I like the colors
I think its a wonderful idea. It helps the kids particpate in the community. Everyone visits the laundromat
Great idea , wonderful to look at, awesome for kids.
I think that’s a wonderful idea! I know I always check out artwork whenever we go to our local children’s healthcare urgent care center in Atlanta. They post the first name, age, and school of the child who did the artwork.
I love the idea. It would definitely make doing laundry more fun and would spark up great conversation with others in the community.
I think it’s a great idea. I know all of our laundry mats are dark and could use something fun.
I think local art work placed in laundry mats is a great idea! It would help to make the time go by faster and give customers something to discuss!
Most laundromats are dull and boring inside; it would cheer people up to have nice art to look at instead of bland dirty walls.
I remember the days when I lived in an apartment and spent my Saturday mornings at the laundromat. It would have been so nice to have some local art work covering the dull, white walls!
This is a great idea. Laundromats can be dreary and boring. Local artwork would brighten them up.

GGGreat idea! I no longer use laundromats, but my memories are pretty bleak… fingers crossed
The idea sounds great. The last time I used a laundromat it was pretty dreary.

I have had to use the laundromats and they are dull and boring inside! I know it would cheer people up to have nice art to look at instead of bland dirty walls.
I love the idea of showcasing artwork at laundry mats. People there have a lot of time and rarely anything to look at. I think this is a win-win situation for sure.
This is such a great idea! I’m a big fan of public art, and brightening up laundromats is brilliant!
that’s a wonderful idea…they do that where i live on the sides of buildings it helps to stop tagging
I love this idea. It’s a great way to make a place that would normally be dull, bright and cheerful.
i like that idea, or even having TVs playing more family friendly shows other then the news would be great!
If t’s done tastefully, I think it is a great idea. It will bring the community together and give the people a sense of pride and belonging.
I think its a great idea because most laundromats are dull and dreary.
I think it is a very nice idea to get the community involved in this type of project. Most laundromats seem dull and and unfriendly, and this would provide for a cheerier environment.

I think it’s a great idea. I’ve had to use laundromats in the past and they’re not the most exciting places
What a great event, glad you had an opportunity to participate and share!
Sounds like an awesome event and it looks like you had a great time! I think it’s a good idea to improve local laundromats.
Wow sounds great people will fill like they are in they own house or they will feel great not just seen plain walls this will be awsome
I think adding artwork to public laundromats would be great. I’ve had to use them before and they all are dull and boring.
I think it is a great idea. Even better if the artwork is local and meaningful to the area.
I love the idea!,,Anything that’s good for kids… Being creative is so much fun and rewarding.. They are going to feel so proud of themselves. Thanks Leslie Grace and Gain!!
I absolutely LOVE this idea! I have had to visit my share of laundromats and I am sure I will be visiting them again! Generally speaking those places are pretty drab in appearance–kind of depressing. If they were brightened up a bit it would to the establishment and probably bring their [patrons a little more enjoyment as they wait for their clothes to finish!
I think artwork in public laundromats is a great idea. The ones that I have gone to are so drab, this would liven them up.
I think it is a great way to get the community involved and brighten places up. I’ve never been to a Laundromat that wasn’t plain!
I LOVE Gain– it is my absolute favorite, and yes, it is that wonderful smell! This looks like lots of fun…I would love to visit the Bronx, it seems that every time we get to New York, we are on a tight schedule and don’t get to explore all the areas.
I love gain and love the new scent even more. i had a sample sent my way as well and bought some right after.
I think that’s an awesome idea! Why not have something bright and pleasant to see whole you’re waiting for your clothes to wash and dry? I love it.
What a great idea! Laundromats are places where people–especially moms and young kids–spend a lot of time, and this is a great way to bring a sense of community to an otherwise mundane place. And getting school children involved makes it even better.
I love this idea. Anything to help our community and school is always the best, great way to bring us together.
I think that it is a great idea. We can enjoy art with laundry.
Glad you had a great time! I would love to see some art in my laundromat. Doing laundry is the worst 🙂
I think this is a really good idea. We have a local laundry mat in town that could really use some updated decor and this is an awesome way to do it.
i love this idea!! Our little laundromat in town is so drab and sad. It’s a community hub of sorts so why not make it fun for everyone and include some colorful life? Love it!
I think it’s a wonderful idea! It is a win win situation for the kids since they get to do more art and for the laundromat because it will be a brighter place to be, It’s almost like a free remodel for the laundromat.
I think its a fantastic idea. Laundromats are always so dull and grim.
I think the idea of brightening up local laundromats with artwork from community residents and local school children is a great idea! Great way to showcase local artists and brighten other’s day!
I think that’s a great idea. Right now there is nothing in a laundromat to brighten my day. This would sure make it a happier place.
I think it’s a fabulous idea! Laundromats are usually so hum drum and boring. Time to get the community involved to spruce it up!
How cool is that! That’s awesome, not only because she performed, but because of the fabulous scent of the flings!
That would be a great way of lightening and livening up a usually drab space — plus, it would be a way to bring a more community-oriented vibe to laundromats, which can often be kind of depressing and isolating locations!

I think it is a great idea. It will give people something nice to look at while doing their laundry and inspire kids to stay creative.
I like the idea. It’s a wonderful way to bring the community together especially if the community helps to paint it.
I think it is a great idea! It makes the place feel more welcoming for sure.
I think its a great idea because most laundrymats are really dull.
I think it is a good idea. Art should be available to all.
I think its great. I mean one of the worst places to be is the laundry mat, i think it would make for a better experience seeing beautiful art on the walls.
I think it sounds like a great idea! Artwork can make anywhere better.
I think it sounds like an amazing idea.. it forces children to be artistic.
I think it’s a great idea, it would help liven up the places and it would be so good for children.
I love the idea of brightening up local laundromats with artwork from community residents and local school children! I hate how boring and white and in general cold laundromats can be. This would make laundromats have a much nicer atmosphere in general.
I love the Idea of brighten up any public place and it is better than them vandalizing the outside this way they can express themselves legally. It may lead to them getting famous from it also
I entered the Netflix giveaway
Laundromats are generally pretty boring, in my opinion. I think it would be awesome to hang art from locals that might not be seen by the public otherwise.
Not sure if this is open to canada also but I entered anyways. I think this is a great idea. It gives you something to look forward to when you visit the laundromat. Also public art enhances so many spaces. I am a huge fan of this practice. I love driving around my town and towns when I travel and seeing random art pieces on mailboxes, fire hydrants and windows. Art can lift your spirits and make you happy. It keeps artists gainfully employed as well. So heck yes I am all for this. It’s smart!
I think is a great idea! is a win win, you get beautiful art display in a place that’s usually boring, and the artists get to show their art to the public.
I would love to have a center for kids to feel safe and no bullying
I would love the idea. Also having books for kids to read. Anything that can spark childrens imagination!

I think it would brighten up the sterilized look of the laundry mat while also bringing the community together!
I think that is a great idea, why not do it?!
This is a great idea. Most laundromats are dull and depressing. This would brighten them up!
I think it’s an awesome idea! I can’t think of a single person who doesn’t get a smile on their face when they see a child’s artwork. It would definitely brighten up people’s days!
Great idea. I don’t have to go to the laundromat but my daughter does and it would brighten her day
I like the idea. It is a great for kids to show their creativity and inspire others.
I think this a wonderful idea to display art! It would definitely brighten up the place!
I think it’s a great idea to brighten up local laundromats with artwork from community residents. Who wants to do their laundry in some boring, dull room with nothing going on in it?
I think that it is a fabulous idea to brighten up laundromats with artwork. It would make the idea of laundry a little less dull.

I think that is a great idea,This would brighten them up!
I think it would be a great idea. I know how happy my son is when I hang his artwork at home so I know how proud these kids would be to see their work in a public place.
i like the idea… laundromats get a bad rep for being kind of dirty and gross. its about time someone changes that up
I entered the Soft Soap Giveaway
It’s a great idea. It would spruce up Laundry mats and make them more welcoming.
I think its great. I gives your community a sense of pride and let everyone else know what is going on in the community
I think it’s a super idea to use art work to brighten up the place. Anything to help lift spirits and make a chore which is such a bore, more bearable.
I think it’s a nice way to brighten laundromats up. It would be a good way to get people talking, and it would lift people’s spirits.
I love the idea-very eye catching! I may ditch my washing at home 🙂

i think that’s a great idea. i have been to some local laundromats and they are very drab, but there isn’t any reason why doing laundry has to be so boring and sad.
I really like that idea. I love the idea of brightening up the space and incorporating the local community. Maybe have a space there for kids to contribute while they are there!
I think it’s a great idea. It will give people something to look at while doing laundry, forcing them to stop and look.
I think it is a great idea for the kids to do that! I enjoy seeing kids’ artwork and that would be a great place for people to see it.
I think its a great idea. I think moms and children would be much more excited to go and do laundry with a fun and bright atmosphere.
I think that would be a fantastic idea! It would make the place feel a lot more like a community and I think people would value it more.
I think that’s a great idea. Who know what talent would show up and have a chance to be recognized, and then put on a path for a lifelong pursuit
I think sprucing up the laundry mats are a great idea! They are not somewhere people want to stay even though they have to go there. Making it a little more inviting will attract people.
I think thats a fabulous idea! Any opportunities for kids to get to be creative and do something to feel like they are making a difference in the community is fantastic!

i think it is a wonderful idea and a win win for all. It will make the children feel better and the clients happy to see the art.
I think it would be a great idea because the laundromat gets so dull. Thanks!
