Support Kids Walk For Kids With Cancer! #KidsWalk #WalkWithUs @KidsWalkMSKCC

As many of you are aware, I am a six year Leukemia Survivor.  Receiving a Cancer diagnosis is devastating at any age, however, it is especially horrific when a child is diagnosed with this disease.  It’s every parents’ worst nightmare and, unfortunately, the reality is that Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children.  Each day 46 children will be diagnosed with Cancer-this number is equivalent to the number of seats that it takes to fill a school bus.

Pediatric Cancer research is severely underfunded which is why Kids Walk For Kids With Cancer is such an important event.  In 2001, a group of 8th grade students in Brooklyn, NY decided to raise funds to help cure pediatric Cancer.  One of the students had a little brother who was finishing treatment for stage IV neuroblastoma at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center so this cause was deeply personal to him.

These 8th graders raised $35,000 through their walkathon and, since then, new teams continue to walk for this cause.  Registration is now open for the 2014 Kids Walk events in NJ and NYC.  The New York City event will be held on May 10th at Mineral Springs in Central Park.  As the flagship event, it has attracted students from more than 50 tri-state schools and has hosted 1,200 walkers!

100% of the proceeds from the Kids Walk support research of hard-to-cure pediatric cancers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center.  MSK has devoted more than a century to patient care as well as to innovative research, making significant contributions to new and better therapies for the treatment of pediatric cancer.

Here is what you could do to get involved:

  • Register to walk on your own or form a team with friends
  • If you are unable to attend Kids Walk you can still donate here
  • Organize a Kids Walk in your community; Contact Them for more information

We look forward to another great year of walkers to raise money for a vital cause.  It is imperative that we publicize the need for more pediatric cancer research and raises funds for critical advancements.  No child should have their future robbed from them by Cancer…
