Most women grow up and learn their beauty and skin care routines from their mothers and grandmothers. Within the Hispanic community, this is especially true and, as young girls, we are taught the secrets passed down by generations of women in our family when it comes to grooming and taking care of ourselves. In many cases, the tips that are passed down include ingredients that can be found in nature that serve to bring out our natural beauty.
I was raised by my Grandmother in Spain until I was eight years old and she has always used natural products to take care of herself on the inside and on the outside. My grandparents owned a farm and she grew a variety of fruits and vegetables in her garden which we consumed and which she swore had secret beauty benefits. I remember laughing whenever she would say that eating pears daily made her skin smooth and soft and kept the wrinkles away.
Without fail, my “Tata” would walk right into her orchard every morning and load her apron with apples and pears which she would munch on as she would prune and water her trees. She has always had beautiful skin and gets compliments on it regularly. Now that I’m an adult I know that she was right all these years because pears are rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants which prevent our skin cells from severe damage. Also, pears are loaded with dietary fibers which keep our skin soft and smooth.
Go figure that eating pears every single day was one of the most important natural beauty secret that my grandmother passed down to me all these years. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the natural ingredients that are all around us in nature and have the ability to enhance our already natural beauty. By tapping into ancient folklore as well as historical uses of oat and using science to identify its most useful properties for healthy skin, AVEENO ® scientists have unlocked the hidden benefits within the small but mighty oat.
Oats are one of nature’s best kept beauty secrets because they contain all of the essential elements that your skin requires in order to stay healthy and hydrated including proteins, antioxidants, enzymes, vitamins and lipids. To celebrate these ingredients and to educate Latinas about the significance of adding oats to our skin care regimen, AVEENO ® is pleased to debut “The Beauty of Nature” video narrative featuring Brand Ambassador Jennifer Aniston.
Here is a preview of the “Beauty of Nature” AVEENO ® video narrative:
As you watch the video and trace the oat’s journey from local family farms to grain mills, you will learn about its power to soothe, moisturize and protect your skin and give you that flawless and timeless look that we all want. You can find all of these properties in the AVEENO ® Active Naturals line. They understand the true definition of feeling beautiful naturally and knowing that you are doing the best thing for your skin.
Let’s Discuss: What are some of the beauty or skin care secrets that you learned from your mother or grandmother?

The only real beauty secret that I learned was from my mom. She always said that to keep the wrinkles away, use Oil of Olay every night before bed. And I do.
I love Aveeno products. But the Aveeno Baby items is all I will use on my little ones!
I laughed at Robin’s post because I’m wondering if that was a commercial slogan? My brain thinks it could have been. 🙂 I like Aveeno products, especially their baby line.
I don’t have any beauty secrets. I do know that my Mom used Aveeno for all of my brother’s rashes.
My mother and grandmother weren’t ones to teach me about skincare, but I have learned that I love Aveeno! Their products make my skin so soft and moisturized!
I learned to use lotion daily from my Mom. She always has her lotion with her because of dry skin and I have the same issue if not worse. She also introduced me as a kid to vaseline and how it tames my hair and also helps with dry skin.
My grandmother was true believer in using Vaseline for everything. She would add a little color ans use it for her lips or a drop of her favorite scent and use it as perfume.
Aveno is the stuff my doctor suggested I use since I was younger I love how aveno.has evolved over the years. I used to only been able to use the soap bars so I didn’t breal out. I’m very happy that aveno makes shampoos and conditioners as well as body washes. My skin gets complements on it all the time too.
Lotion is really good; I could use some myself because at times my hands get really dry and feel weird. Some lotion helps that really well, this new one from Aveeno sounds great.
I’ve always loved Aveeno. Now I have my son using it because he’s had really dry skin this winter. I love how gentle it is.
Aveeno is my favorite. OUr doctor has recommended this to my kids with sensitive skin.
I love Aveeno. Such a great product. Very nourishing to the skin
Our grandparents really know/knew how to take care of their skin. I really like Aveeno. One of my favorite beauty products.
i adore Aveeno i keep it in every room of my house it’s the best.
We have a bottle of Aveeno in our closet at all times. My daughter has dry, itchy skin and this really helps her.
Aveeno is amazing – I’m sure my Mum was the one who introduced me to it a while back as well. x
Aveeno is one of our familys favorite brands. It works wonders on my hubs and kids dry sensitive skin.
“Most women” …. lol, once again I’m in the minority it seems! I’ve pretty much learned my own routine and beauty tricks myself over time. My mother rarely touched makeup and didn’t seem to really care about taking care of her skin.
