Recently, my sons, nephews and I had the pleasure of attending the screening of Mr. Peabody & Sherman in New York City.  We were all very excited to see the film version of this timeless classic.  All of us had already become enamored with the characters that we were introduced to in the previews that we had seen.

The film is centered around Mr. Peabody, who is an intelligent dog who speaks and lives in the human world, and his son Sherman who is a real boy. Together they use their time machine, called the WABAC, to have some amazing adventures.  When Sherman takes the WABAC for a joyride to impress his friend Penny, they rip a hole in the universe and end up altering some of the most famous events in world history.  Luckily, Mr. Peabody comes to the rescue and, in the process of saving history, he learns how to be a father.

Mr. Peabody is the voice of Ty Burrell from Modern Family and Sherman is voiced by Max Charles from The Amazing Spiderman.  When asked if his daughters had seen the film yet, Ty Burrell shared that although they hadn’t, they point to billboards they see of the film and refer to Mr. Peabody as “Daddy.”  Max Charles also had great advice for kids who want to follow in his footsteps and become an actor.  He encourages kids to follow their dreams and to go for whatever it is that they want to do.

We loved Mr. Peabody & Sherman because the characters were so genuine and likable.  As an educator, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the educational and historical references throughout the film.  They opened the door for my sons and nephews to ask a lot of questions which created a dialogue about history.  I think it will be a great film to watch with my students also to get them talking about history and the past.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman debuts this weekend on March, 7.  Make sure you set some quality time aside to take your family to see it.  You can also connect with Mr. Peabody by liking Mr. Peabody & Sherman on Facebook and following @DWAnimation on Twitter.  This will help you make your own mark on history!

Let’s Discuss:  Why do you think this would be a great movie to take your entire family to see?
