As my Dad is getting closer and closer to retiring from his job in a few years, I worry a lot about how he and my Mom are going to pay for all of their prescription medications. They both have chronic medical conditions and take a variety of medicines to stay healthy which can be very expensive when one doesn’t have prescription drug coverage. The moment that he retires, he will lose his medical insurance and this can potentially be financially devastating to them.
Recently, we have been hearing about a lot of changes that are taking place in healthcare. This can be very confusing to families who are just trying to navigate the healthcare industry in order to obtain the best medical coverage for their loved ones. One of the new programs that is being provided by Medicare, called Medicare Part D, provides its members with insurance to help people pay for their prescription drugs.
Since both of my parents have heart problems and my father is diabetic, being entitled to this drug coverage regardless of their income is a godsend. There are no physical exams required for eligibility and you cannot be denied for preexisting health conditions or due to current medication regimens. All my parents will have to do is pay a monthly premium and transfer their prescriptions to their favorite local pharmacy.
Now that many of us as adults are becoming caretakers to our parents, it is important to make sure that they receive the complete pharmacy care that they require to stay healthy. By switching the prescription drug plans of your parents, aunts and uncles, or grandparents, to your local Walgreens Pharmacy, you could save a substantial amount of money on their Medicare Part D copays. Your elderly family members can SAVE with copays as low as $0 on select plans at Walgreens.
Walgreens Pharmacy is the perfect choice for my Mami and Papi because they can refill prescriptions online as well as receive refill reminders when it is time to reorder their medications. They can even get their yearly Flu shots there! I won’t have to worry that my parents are not receiving the medicines that they require to survive just because they cannot afford them. My parents also like that they can continue to be independent and take charge of their own healthcare.
If you are caring for a family member, a neighbor, or a family friend who over the age of 65 make sure you educate yourself on Medicare Part D and how Walgreens can take care of all of your prescription needs. Your loved ones will thank you for helping them to save money as well as be proactive about their health!
Do your elders gave Medicare Part D? Have them switch and save with Walgreens! Learn more about all of the family health services that your local Walgreens Pharmacy offers by visiting them on Facebook and giving them a “Like”!
Let’s Discuss: Have you ever cared for an elderly family member, friend, or neighbor? How did you help them remain proactive about their healthcare?

You’re right about the changes confusing people. my head is spinning. My mom just lost her husband at the end of last year, and I worry about her, though her health isn’t declining (knock on wood). It’s good to be informed and prepared ahead of time though, just in case.
No, I haven’t cared for an elderly family member, but I am the oldest, so I think once my parents are older, I may become their caretaker.
Your parents are very lucky to have such a caring daughter. I’m not a huge fan of Walgreens because they push the flu shot to patrons so much. Then again, that’s any pharmacy.
I love the fact that you can refill prescriptions online. That’s really handy!
I don’t visit pharmacy’s too much since I usually get my prescriptions filled at the hospital on base. I don’t have a Walgreens near me either, just CVS.
What a great resource! Medicare Part D and Walgreens is really doing a marvelous job in taking care of the elderly in ways that are beneficial to them.
I have very vivid memories of when my grandmother lived with us when I was younger. Bless my parent’s hearts, they sure did try to do their best with her, but they eventually brought in some help for her. I hope I can honor them in the future, as well.
Walgreens is such a wonderful organization; they’re really changing the way their interact with their consumers. Changes can be overwhelming for people, it’s nice to know Walgreens is there to help them.
I should let my grandma know about this. She has some meds for diabetes and anything that can help her save is worth it.
It’s nice to see that there are options for elderly people. Health care is not one-size-fits-all.
I will have to let my parents know about this. I had no clue until reading this.
I am very glad that your parents will be able to get what they need. Nice post. God bless! 🙂
I wish we could have discounts on prescription drugs too! It’s good to know that they have different plans to choose from.
Prescriptions can really affect a monthly budget in a big way. I’m glad that this will help your parents and so many others.
I just heard about this on the radio as I was driving to a client today! I think it is great. I will be telling my Mom about it for sure. AND I am 63 so in 2 more years I will be eligable for it as well!!
What a great scheme – I’ve never had to care for an elderly family member or friend but I’m sure the day will sadly come, it’s nice to know places are getting more pro-active in helping those who need it keep on top of things. x
I love when I go to Walgreens, they always tell me alternatives that even the doctor did not recommend for us that are cheaper and just as effective. It is information we can then take to the doctor and ask about which it is nice to be prepared. They do so much that others just do not do.
I love Walgreens. I am currently taking care of my Mom after her hip replacement and love you can get info from them.
I can’t say that I have ever had to care for an elderly family member before.
This is so informative. My father is getting older and medical costs are on the rise so its refreshing to know that there are options out there. Thank you again for sharing, I book marked this post.
I have elderly parents and we are dealing with much of this right now. They are fortunate to have a great supplemental insurance plan that picks up the part that medicare doesn’t pay.
I have not cared for elderly parents yet, but my mom is closing in on retirement, so it will probably be coming soon!
I have parents that are retired but haven’t figured out how to get them Part D for predcribtion need to do more research
This is fantastic information for those caring for elderly parents. My mom still has about 10 years to go before she reaches that age.
My parents use this as well. It’s such a great program. Prescriptions can be so expensive.
it is so good to see that some companies understand the need for fair priced drugs… This should be universal.
My parents are in India so I really don’t know much about Medicare. I am glad that your parents have a choice with Walgreens Pharmacy offering savings on their prescription medications.
I don’t really know a lot about Medicare.
I love walgreens, they have soo many things to offer from Healthcare clinics to awesome prescition plans and of course deals and products..thanks for sharing, they are always worth checking out
Insurance can be so hard to navigate – especially which doctors accept which types. It’s great that Walgreens can make some of the process easier by offering so many services.
It’s really sad how expensive prescription medication is so expensive. I don’t know how medication companies expect us to pay for our medicines, even if we are lucky enough to have insurance.
I love walgreens. Meds now have gotten completely outrageous with or without insurance!
