In light of the current economic times, many people are educating themselves more and more about ways that they could save money on their household budgets.  One of the ways that many have become more frugal is by looking for secondhand household bargains or by selling children’s products that their kids no longer use or have grown out of.  Many of these items such as toys, clothes or nursery items are in excellent condition and can still be used by other families.

Online sites like Quicksales can be great sources for finding secondhand items.  There are many benefits for both selling and purchasing these kinds of products for the home and they are:

  • You can find some great bargains on gently used clothing, furniture, and even electronics at way below retail prices.
  • It’s a great way to recycle products that can still be useful to others and reduce waste.
  • By saving money on buying secondhand items, you can spend your budget on other things like family vacations or like paying down your debt.
  • Instead of buying new and expensive clothing every time your kids outgrow their clothes, you can get some deals on clothing in their new size that is still in great condition.
  • Buying and selling secondhand items allows you to purge your home of the things that you don’t need anymore, thereby keeping your house free of clutter.

Many people also love purchasing secondhand items because they have their own unique sense of personal style or home decorating.  I’ve personally found many fashion gems while shopping online on listings and classifieds sites.  They are usually free for sellers to list and sell items and there are a wide range of categories for items available on these sites.  As a matter of fact, I got a great deal on the secondhand bunk beds that are currently in my sons’ rooms and was very happy to be able to save so much money.

At the end of the day, the possibilities to save money are endless when shopping for secondhand items.  By saving all that money, you can buy more items for less and get the most for your buck.  Saving on your family’s budget while saving the planet is a win-win situation for everybody!

Let’s Discuss:  What are some of the secondhand items that your family has purchased?

I have no problem buying second hand items, certain things you have to just buy new but the majority of things we own are second hand. if there is nothing wrong with them and you don’t have to pay full price retail price then why not?

  2. Great tips for saving money. I dont have any problems buying second hand items, I dont see anything wrong with that, I buy second hand stuff from time to time

  3. ALL of my boys jeans are from the thrift shop. I used to spend so much money on jeans for them at Old Navy or Gap Kids and I swear they would wear them once and come home with holes in the knees. So now, I only spend a few dollars on their jeans and I don’t care as much if they tear them up.

  4. I love second hand. Especially when they grow so fast. Its clearance or second hand for me!

  5. I love looking at thrift stores and garage sales! Most of my children’s clothes have been hand me downs…. Luckily I have friends that have children older than I do, so we get their clothes when they’re done!

  6. My mother in law is the queen of finding great second hand items! I love the things she gets!! I think she loves the search too. 🙂

I sometimes buy my daughter second hand items on facebook. Most of the mamas are super into Baby Gap like me so the items are only worn once or twice before they sell.

  10. I really like thrift shopping and yard-saling, so this would be right up my alley. I’ve found lots of cute clothes with the tags still on them at thrift stores.

I love finding deals from the store and this one sounds like a perfect place to find just that!. Never heard of this but I will have to check it out.

  12. A new Goodwill opened near me and that place doesn’t owe me a thing! I got my coat, several flattering dresses, and little pieces here and there from them. I’ve always loved thrift shops and saving a few bucks.

I used to be a secondhand snob, but once I grew up and started spending my own money, I learned otherwise. I’m ALL about saving now. There are great deals on furniture that can be restored!

  21. Ohh this is awesome. I love secondhand.. my entire childhood was trying to buy secondhand items from American embassy families. They had all the good stuff. 😀 I still do secondhand – it looks just as good as new and it’s so much cheaper. Thanks for sharing this site with me – i’m all over it!!

  22. this sounds like a great place to get some cheap products. i love going to thrift stores and garage sales to look for paintings and accent pieces to decorate the house.

  23. I don’t think my son had “new” clothes until he was well into his toddler years, I was fortunate and had a nephew that was just 9 months older so we got all of his hand me downs, it was awesome. At that age, they certainly don’t wear the clothing out! Thrift stores are another great source for sure!
