Ever since I was a little girl, I can remember how beloved novelas/soap operas were in our home. My Aunt, who was a teacher, would use the VHS to record her favorite stories during the day when she was at work and unable to watch them. In the evening, my sister and I would sit with her captivated by the intriguing characters and their dramatic lives. This is exactly what initially drew me to watching the telenovela Lo Que La Vida Me Robo on Univision, its colorful protagonists and their complicated drama.
My favorite character, and the one whom I can relate to the most, is Montserrat Mendoza. She is the female protagonist who is a a young noble woman, willing to make any sacrifice for her family. Unfortunately, she carries the financial future of her entire family on her shoulders and has to marry into money in order to solve their economic problems. As a result, she is forced to break off her engagement to the man she loves, José Luis, in order to appease her family and marry a man with more promising financial means and social status.
I can relate to Montserrat because I have always felt like I carried the worries of my family on my shoulders too. Whenever any of my family members have been in trouble, they have always looked to me for help and support. Like Montse, there is no sacrifice too big that I am unwilling to make for my family, even if it compromises my own happiness. Add to that the fact that my family is always full of drama and surprises, and Montse and I could practically be sisters! Luckily, I have never had to compromise being with the man I love to pacify my family like she has.
The best thing is that you can practically become best friends with your favorite novelas character by downloading the new Univision interactive app. It allows you to follow along with your favorite protagonist and even sneak some peeks behind the scenes and check out additional footage. This is a wonderful way to get to know and to connect with these characters on another level. You can download the app here!
Tune in to Lo Que La Vida Me Robo weeknights at 9pm on Univision. Can’t wait? You can find a plethora of dramatic clips to keep you busy on their dedicated novelas video page! I guarantee that you will become engrossed in the life of Montserrat Mendoza just like I did. After all, who could pass up a juicy novela?
Let’s Discuss: What do you think makes novelas/soap operas so appealing to viewers?

I remember my ex mother in law used to watch soap operas on the Spanish channel every night. She is Portuguese and didn’t actually speak Spanish, but she said it was close enough LOL. I think she watched them to escape life and relax for an hour.
I used to watch telenovela but when my kids took ownership of the TV, not anymore lol. I have some shows that I like watching though, I watch it online.

I’ve never gotten into novelas/soap operas but I love novels with similar plots!
I am like you and would be Montserra, I think it is a mom thing we always try to take on the world for our loved ones and keep them from pain and hardship. Thank you for the giveaway, i will share this app with a friend, she will love it.
I think the ongoing nature of soaps really hook people in. I watched for many years, it was just neat to see people grow up and change.
I love the novela. Wao monserrat is beautiful, strong and lovely.
I used to love soaps as a teen I only really watch one now – I found watching them all a little to depressing really there was always someone dying, someone breaking up – you can never be happy in the world of soaps. x
I used to watch soap when my kids were first born before going to work… I would have to say I relate to Montserrat Mendoza the most. she struggles to support her family n has to give up the love of her life in order to provide for them… It is sad she has to choose between her family n the one she truly loves…

I have traits of Montserrat, but my loyalty to love outweighs my love for money. I am more likely to be optimistic about solving financial woes by other means than sacrifice happiness. But that is not good entertainment!!Ha! 😉
Montserrat for me as well, I have a tough burden financially so I can certainly understand her. But she is definitely making a sacrifice I wouldn’t be prepared to make! But that rock in a hard place position is what makes for good drama!
I think Montserrat is the one as well. I always feel my family needs to be taken care of no matter what sacrifices I have to make I will do it for my family.

My favorite character and the person I most identify with is Mendoza Monstserrat because she places family above all else.
I think we watch them to escape the ordinary life we believe we have. I’m sure almost any of us could come up with enough situations to make a soap opera (with some embellishment). I’ve never watched “Lo Que La Vida Me Robo” because I don’t speak Spanish.
I can identify with Montserrat because she is willing to sacrifice for the well being of the family. I just didn’t relate with the other characters too much.
