Most of you who are regular readers of this blog know that I was recently the victim of identity theft. Fortunately, I found out about it because many people continue to be victimized for years without ever knowing that it was even taking place. Having the opportunity to review a state-of-the-art P-12C Fellowes paper shredder couldn’t have come at a more opportune time for me with this unfortunate recent turn of events…
We receive a lot of mail and junk mail here at our home and I always spend hours ripping it all up meticulously so that predators will not be able to access our personal information. These criminals have been known to sift through people’s garbage just to read through discarded documents and mail in order to steal their identities. Due to this recent experience of having my name and social security number compromised, I am more worried than ever about the important papers that we throw away in the trash.
Now that tax season is right around the corner, many of us will be going through all of the papers and receipts that we saved this year. It’s very important to properly discard of whatever old credit cards, old pay stubs, or other documents in order to protect yourself from having your identity compromised like I did. I will certainly be a lot more cautious and proactive when it comes to protecting my identity, my credit and my important papers moving forward.
- SafeSense® Technology which automatically disables the shredder when hands touch the paper opening
- Cross-Cut Blades that destroy 12 pieces of paper into approximately 309 particles per sheet, making it extremely difficult to reassemble
- The ability to shred credit cards, paper clips, staples, and junk mail for added convenience
- The P-12C can be purchased at Walmart Stores nationwide and at www.Walmart.com for a suggested retail price of $99.97.
Along with these awesome features, it is very compact and attractive and fits into any home office decor. This is definitely not something that you would expect from a shredder that has such strong capacities. As a parent of two children and a dog, I really appreciate the SafeSense® technology because you can’t imagine how many times the kids run up and want to help shred papers. Of course, our dog Onyx is usually right behind them.
As a recent victim of identity theft myself, I recommend the Fellowes P-12C Shredder as an integral part of your identity protection arsenal. These criminals have their weapons so us consumers need to have ours!
Let’s Discuss: How do you protect you and your family from becoming victims of identity theft?

This is such a great thing to have. I have also been a victim of identity theft. Fortunately they didn’t get away with alot but shredding your personal stuff is a good precaution.
I need a new shredder so I will definitely be looking into this one!
I need this! I hate having to rip stuff up, I always feel like I never rip it enough. This would be perfect!
I need one. I Have told my husband a thousand times that we need a shredder, but he doesn’t listen. I think I just have to go get one myself!!
Oh this is one of the machines that we also need to get one of these days.
I have two Fellowes products and love them! This looks like another good one to have.
After being a victim of identity theft last year my husband and I leave nothing with as much as our name just loosely laying around. I call him the shredding petty office he shreds everything I get so annoyed sometimes. lol
I’d love to have one of these.
This is so helpful shredder can be used in different ways for various reasons – very helpful for cases like this, too.
I have that shredder, it’s awesome! It is so important to shred documents with personal information on it. I think that’s really the best way to prevent ID theft.
Love the SafeSense feature! With an inquisitive 2 and 5 year old – this is a must! Identity Theft is something we should all be proactive with protecting ourselves from. Recovering from it is exhausting. I’m so sorry to hear you experienced it. Thank you for sharing your experience to educate others.
Identity theft is a real issue today. My sister’s identity got stolen and her credit card information was used by someone in Spain. It is very important to keep safe!
No matter if you were a victim or not, it is always to play it safe when it comes to personal documents. Were I live, we are allowed to build fires in our back yards. These fires come in handy when getting rid of important papers that we don’t need. Thanks for the review!
This would be perfect for my office. I always find myself rippng papers to shreds.
I SO need this in my office. It would make life so much easier.
I worry about identity theft too. I have started shredding everything around here too.
wow I like this shredder, and yes identity theft is really scary, I shred all my papers after Im done with them, I do not want to become a victim
we alway shred important documents it’s the safest way
yes I read about your ordeal, and I think this is going to be the best alternative for all of us. I need a shreder!!!
Your post reminds me that I need to do a shredding marathon! You are right that it is important to shred documents with personal information on them.
I do a lot of shredding! Both here at home, and also at work. I work in the accounting department and we shred everything. You have to these days.
I have been a victim of idenity theft. Everyone needs to protect themselves!
I need to pick one of these up and get to work! Especially with tax season around the bend, perfect time to weed through and shred anything I don’t need to keep stacked up on my desk.
That sucks about the identity theft! But I love using paper shredders, so much better than meticulously tearing every single paper up!
Identity theft (and not letting your spouse know what you really spent (ha!) ) are two important reasons to have a shredder. 🙂
Fortunately, we don’t have identity thefts here in the Philippines, since we don’t have what you call social security numbers. But it really is something to be aware of. I love the features, especially the one where it automatically stops when your finger is almost at the “mouth” of the shredder.
my bf is a bill hoarder, i pretty sure he has bills going back 205 0.0 i keep mine for one year and then i just shred them, but we dont have a cool paper shredder like yours!
I *love* shredding. It’s the OCD Virgo side of me. Spent 10 minutes today shredding six months worth of pre-approved credit cards offers, junk mail, boarding passes, etc. etc. Felt great!
We invested in a good shredder a couple of years ago. It really is a relief to be able to destroy sensitive papers at home. My husband does most of the shredding, but it is fun when I get a chance!
This looks like a great shredder
