This Christmas, my family all congregated at our home and everyone contributed one dish to the evening meal. I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I was that I didn’t have to do all the cooking because it was all I could bear to have to get the house in order for so many guests.
The dish that I was most excited about was my father’s Paella which is a traditional Spanish dish that we enjoy together every year as a family. My sister’s contribution to the dinner was homemade potato salad and my sister in law brought pernil or roast pork. I made stuffing because it is my mother’s favorite and reminds her of my grandmother since it was her recipe for years.
It was great to enjoy these delicious dishes with my loved ones but, after everyone left, I was inundated with a barrage of leftovers that I did not know what to do with. Thankfully, Hormel Foods has compiled a list of new ways to enjoy leftovers this holiday season. Now I don’t have to worry about my family growing bored with our leftovers and I can dazzle their taste buds with these creative and yummy options:
- Looking for a new approach for all that leftover Thanksgiving turkey? Create Greek Turkey Kabobs by cutting Jennie-O® Turkey Store® oven roasted turkey breast into cubes and alternately threading them onto skewers with cucumbers, tomatoes and Peloponnese® kalamata pitted olives. This Mediterranean twist might just convert reluctant turkey eaters!
- Use extra holiday ham and pie crusts to bake a delicious quiche! Mix in your favorite vegetables and seasonings with Hormel® Cure 81® sliced ham to create a wonderful meal that can feed the whole family.
- If you’re craving the standard leftover turkey sandwich, take it up a notch with corn tortillas! They make a great stand-in for bread and give your sandwich an extra special crunch.
- Make a lunchtime salad by tossing pasta with leftover turkey or ham, vegetables, and your favorite dressing.
Let’s Discuss: What is your family’s favorite holiday leftover recipe? Do you think ham or turkey makes better leftover dishes?

OMG, The Greek Turkey Kabobs sound amazingly delicious. It puts such a unique twist on such a traditional food. Plus, I love Greek food. I myself am a quarter Greek.
I actually love leftovers! Some of my best, most creative ideas come from leftovers that I throw together 🙂
Now, for holidays – it just have to be turkey and no one really gets that all finished – so its always to use them for leftover treats these are really good ideas!
Greek Turkey Kabobs would definitely a great dish.Whenever get chance surely gonna taste this.
i didn’t think of making a rice type dish with it. but yes, paella sounds good.
I generally do not have that many leftovers since I am single and generally go to others homes for large meals! The paella looks mighty good–I haven’t had that in ages!!
My Hubs won’t eat leftovers unless he has no idea they are left over. I bet if I would make the turkey kabobs, he would have no idea they were left from a previous meal. Especially if I froze the turkey and brought it out later.
We did Christmas at my parent’s house, so we didn’t have as many leftovers as we did in the past when we’ve hosted. I have never had tried Paella, but I have always wanted to!
What some great ideas – I know *insert type of meat of the year* sandwiches seem to go on forever here after Christmas. I love the idea of the Turkey Kebabs x
Turkey kebabs would be a great idea to use up leftover turkey. I like to make quiche with our leftover ham.
I always think ham makes the best left over dish. You can add it to breakfast, lunch and dinner.. omelets, sandwiches, random ham stuff… its just yumm!
Leftover ham… oh the possibilities are endless. Quiche and tossed salad are two of my favorites!
Great ideas, I love JennyO turkey products and will try it
We decided to try something new this year and well have no leftovers. We all had soup because our new item was a failure, lol. I would love to try some of these things though, we are re-doing our meal for New Years.
We love to make ham and navy bean soup with the left over ham at Christmas time. We also love to put in in scallop potatoes.
I never get bored of eating leftover turkey. My family enjoys it in soups or taquitos. Whenever we host our Thanksgiving or Christmas luncheon, we make sure to give our guests a few plates of extra food. I love all your creative ideas for using any left over food!!
We had leftover turkey for a straight week after Thanksgiving – and lots of pumpkin too. Soup is my favorite way to have the meat. Yummy!
Great ideas.. we always have tons of Ham leftover between Christmas and New Years… now I know what to dish up with them… I love Casseroles for leftovers .. thanks for sharing and hope you had a great Christmas
We never have leftovers – my husband is weird and won’t eat them ever
This year I went to other places for the holidays but in the past sandwiches and soup were things I would use for leftovers.I do love leftovers; mac and cheese for breakfast. Pie for lunch.
I always wanted to make paella because I love seafood. The only reason I hesitate to make it because I think you have use some kind of sausage (I am not sure). We don’t eat pork or beef products. I would love to see if you have a recipe where you can skip it.
We use a lot of their ham and I love making casserole dishes and omelettes to freeze. The turkey I have used to grind up for turkey salad before but love seeing different ways to use it.
I think ham makes a better base for leftovers! I am so “turkeyed out” – I love ham in all its forms. It makes such a gtre soup base, too – and I love adding it to beans – it gives them a good depth of flavor. I love adding it to omelets – I think that’s my favorite!
