Select The Best Candidate For The 2013 Maytag Dependable Leader Award! #MC #Ad

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Maytag. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Being an educator, I am always on the lookout for initiatives which celebrate young people or recognize those who are committed to helping young people to reach their full potential.  One of the organizations that I have always respected is the Boys & Girls Club.  They help to inspire children all across America to be the best that they could be.

Maytag needs your help to select the best candidate for the 2013 Maytag Dependable Leader Award – an award to recognize someone committed to making a difference in the lives of youth -through America’s Vote competition.

From November 12th through November 29th, visit to learn about all five finalists and the exemplary work they do in their respective communities, and to help make a difference, vote once a day for the nominee they find to best represent a Maytag Dependable Leader!

The finalists are:

Albert Hernandez – Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena

Ethan Harris – Boys & Girls Club of Bryant

Nate Ford – Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco

Ricky Gallon – Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay

Steve Hixson – Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland

The winner will join 24 of this year’s other Dependable Leaders across the country and receive a $20,000 financial grant to help his Club continue to improve its impact in its community.  The Maytag Dependable Leader Award gives back to Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s professionals and volunteers who continuously give their days to help better the world of youth with whom they work.

America’s Vote is an extension of the Awards, inviting Americans to select the final Maytag Dependable Leader Award winner in 2013 by voting online at  Make sure you cast your vote and help the winner to give back to the community that has supported him all these years!

Let’s Discuss – What do you think are some of the qualities that make a good leader?

  3. Jennifer Williams says

This is such a great thing to promote, love that Maytag is recognizing something like this . I will go check out all the nominees and see who I want to vote for.

  4. Great to see such a large company recognize our upcoming leaders!

  5. The Boys & Girls Club is a WONDERFUL organization and I know there are lots of great organizations & charities out there, but this one truly deserves it. I wish the best of luck to all of the finalists.

  6. Terry My Journey With Candida says

You know, … I have never had a Maytag but what a great thing they are doing. I see one of the finalists lives not far from me in Cleveland

  7. What a fantastic sounding organization I have to admit to not hearing of them before (blame me not being American). .x

  8. its great that they support boys and girls club

  9. Chrishelle Ebner says

Love that Maytag is recognizing the Boys and Girls club. My pick would have to be Ricky Gallon since he is from my home town. As far as qualities in a leader, compassion is number one for me.

  10. I think this is a great cause. I think my number one quality in a leader has to be compassion, followed by dependability.

  11. scentednights2002 says

What a wonderful cause for them to support.

  12. JadeLouise Designs says

I love that Maytag is honoring those that have served their communities so well! This is a great move by Maytag; it makes me much more endeared to them.

  13. What a lovely cause! Such a wonderful thing when companies support our communities.

  14. What a great way to help the community and be recognized for it!

  15. Trustworthiness is number one on my list of what it takes to be a leader. If you don’t trust your leader, things are going to go downhill pretty quickly!

  16. Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell says

They’re all worthy candidates and I’m glad that at the very least they’re getting recognition for what they do!

  17. Qualities for a good leader.. Someone that is honest, caring, and hard working. Those 3 are hard to come by these days… but I know there are a few people raising their children to be leaders!

  18. The Boys and Girls Club does so much for the community. I think 2 good qualities in a leader are patience and empathy.

  19. I love that Maytag is doing this, hats off to them for making the continued effort!

  20. This is fantastic that Maytag is doing this. They are all deserving. I think that a leader needs to have the ability to delegate and not micromanage. They need to have good communication skills and be a good judge of character. But the most important quality would be the ability to inspire.

  21. I would say the best qualities for a leader would be someone that also listens to others and not take everything on themselves, someone that can delegate and has good communication skills, also must be caring and have a passion for working in a team.

  22. I read about this not too long ago. This is great that Maytag is sponsoring something like this. I’ll have to check out the finalists and cast my vote.

  23. Teresa McCluskey says

I think Maytag is great! and they are now awesome for sponsoring this! Way to go Maytag!

  24. I’ve got a long list of things that make a great leader. The first thing that comes to mind is not asking others to do things you’re not willing to do yourself. This is a great thing that Maytag is doing.

  25. I think being able to be trustworthy and know how to delegate makes a strong leader. I also think communication is a key component as well.

  26. I think a great leader needs to be inspiring-living with standards that others can model.

  27. Melanie Roberts says

What a great post..thanks for sharing it with all of us and a great leader needs to have many different things, honesty, inspiring are just a few that come to mind

  28. Wow this is actually a good thing to work on. 🙂 Inspiring in a way too!

  29. Courtney Pies says

I absolutely love how Maytag has this award! A good leader is someone who does good for others and who inspires others to do good as well.
