Early Detection Saves Lives! #PhilipsBCA @PhilipsHealth #Giveaway #Ad

This is part of a sponsored collaboration with Philips Healthcare. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

My Mammography Story:

Many of you have virtually held my hand recently when I went through my first mammogram screening and callback scare.  Although it was terrifying to worry about possibly being told I have breast cancer, I am aware that early detection saves lives and the earlier, the better.  That is why Philips is taking action to fight breast cancer by raising awareness through education, empowerment, and encouragement.

My Great-Grandmother in Spain.

I never imagined that I would be getting my first mammogram at age 36 but, this summer when I had my yearly gynecological appointment, I shared on my health screening form that my paternal great-grandmother had died of breast cancer.  As a result, my gynecologist gave me the option of having an initial mammogram screening before age 40 due to the family history.  Believe me, I was very scared but I knew that it was better to be proactive and take hold of my health care.

A Company That Cares:

Companies like Philips understand that women are human beings and they are interested in helping to improve our lives through meaningful innovation.  This includes personalizing your breast care so that you are not just another patient but treated like somebody’s mother, sister, daughter and wife.  Their focus, when it comes to breast cancer awareness, is early detection and individualized care for every woman.

Their imaging solutions give the complete picture, helping make diagnoses, less invasive therapy and personalized care a reality for every woman. For example, Philips’ MicroDose Mammography delivers high-quality breast images at a low radiation dose. MicroDose Mammography is also designed to provide a less stressful mammography experience.  This definitely means a lot to me because getting a mammogram was extremely nerve wracking.

Taking Action To Fight Breast Cancer:

  • In 2013, Philips continues to support Breast Cancer Awareness through its global, multi-year program
  • 2013 marks the second year of Philips’ long-term commitment to improving the lives of people around the world by supporting Breast Cancer Awareness
  • Through its support of Breast Cancer Awareness, Philips wants to raise awareness for the importance of early detection, facilitate free testing to women and support ground-breaking international research through donations
  • Building on the technology, expertise and passion across its three sectors – Healthcare, Lighting and Consumer Lifestyle – Philips hopes to add meaningful and sustainable value to the cause and help drive the fight against breast cancer.

Philips Global Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign:

As part of their campaign, Philips will be lighting up landmarks around the world in pink which is the official color of breast cancer awareness.  They will also be helping to raise money for breast cancer research.  More importantly, their goal is to initiate the conversation about how important early detection and low dose mammography screening technology is to all women.  After all, a single image can help reveal breast cancer before it reaches a critical stage. A single image can change a woman’s life…

To become part of this important dialogue about breast cancer awareness, please like Philips Health on Facebook and Twitter.  Help to make early detection and personalized care a reality for every woman.

After having surgery, I was told it was benign, luckily. But I had a few unpleasant weeks last summer.

Our family dentist passed away last month from breast cancer. She was a big proponent of the toys for tots program, so I would donate toys in her name.
