I have always been a big fan of beach movies. When I was a kid, they would play reruns of old beach favorites featuring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello from the old Mickey Mouse Club. It always looked like everyone was having such a great time and everyone was so young and good looking. These movies would definitely make viewers want to be at that beach party dancing and laughing with the stars of the movie.
This Summer, the Disney Channel is bringing back family movie night with the debut of their new original movie titled “Teen Beach Movie.” It is a musical comedy that guarantees to have every member of your family singing and dancing around your living room. Even though it is a fun film reminiscent of the old beach movies, it delivers an important positive message about how important it is to believe in yourself and not be afraid to follow your dreams.
In honor of “Teen Beach Movie” my family enjoyed it’s own movie night and we had a great time dressing up like the characters of the film and spending time together as a family. My husband and I hope that our children will remember these magical moments that we spent as a family when they grow up and have their own families. As you can see from the photos, we had a blast!
The movie stars Ross Lynch (of Disney Channel’s “Austin & Ally” and Hollywood Records’ R5) and Maia Mitchell (ABC Family’s upcoming “The Fosters”) as Brady and McKenzie. They are two surfers who take advantage of the last wave of Summer, one that mysteriously takes them into a classic beach party movie, Wet Side Story.
Once there, it’s surfers versus bikers for control of the beach hangout. Of course, everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance because it wouldn’t be a beach movie without that! Unfortunately, the party must end because Brady and McKenzie try to return to present day, but their lives may be changed forever…
“Teen Beach Movie” is rated TV-G and premiers Friday, July 19, at 8:00 p.m., ET/PT on the Disney Channel. It is geared towards kids, tweens, and their families. Make sure you check out the “Teen Beach Movie” website where you can download a “Teen Beach Movie” party kit including recipes, themed games, activities and music videos. It is sure to be the perfect movie that your family can watch together which just might inspire you to create a new “Family Movie Night” tradition in your home!
