In a few weeks, most of us will be celebrating July 4th and spending time with our loved ones outdoors barbecuing and watching fireworks. Many times we forget the true meaning of some of these holidays as we get caught up in the festivities. Since this particular day is dedicated to celebrating our independence, I thought it fitting that I pay tribute to the service member in our family who selflessly helps protect our freedom and the freedom of all Americans through her service in the United States Navy.
I’ve known my Sister in Law, Ebony, since she was a 13 year old girl and I began dating her older brother whom is now my husband for the past thirteen years. I was immediately drawn to her sparkling personality and her ability to light up the room with her smile. While my husband was stationed at Fort Bragg during his military service, she and I would spend girl time together and instantly started developing a bond of our own.
When she told us that she was enlisting in the Navy years later, I wasn’t surprised because I had always known that she was going to be destined for great things. We knew that her calling was to help others and that is exactly what she is doing through her commitment and dedication to protecting our great country. She has been deployed twice throughout her naval career to Bahrain and Afghanistan and, each time, she served proudly despite the fact that she was away from her family and friends for months at a time in strange new places. These were just personal sacrifices that she made for the greater good of the citizens of this country.
Now through July 4th Outback Steakhouse is supporting our troops and showing their appreciation for their service by offering all retired and active military service members a 10% discount off their entire check when they enjoy lunch or dinner at any of their locations. This is their way of honoring those who serve selflessly in the Armed Services and their families who also make the ultimate sacrifice.
