Make A Pizza With Your Children! #HormelFamily

October was National Pizza Month and us New Yorkers sure know a thing or to about making and eating pizza!  It was first observed in the United States in 1984 by Gerry Durnell, the founder of Pizza Today magazine.  He chose this month to pay homage to this favorite American food because this was the month that his magazine published their first issue.

According to Pizza.com there are an estimated 63,000 pizzerias located throughout the U.S.  This translates into 94% of all Americans eating pizza at least once a month.  Many families enjoy preparing pizza right at home and this is a great opportunity and excuse to involve your kids in preparing a meal that the whole family will love.

Cooking with your children is a great way to take advantage of a “teachable moment.”  You can use this time to discuss your family history or to share traditional family recipes with your them.  Cooking also helps you teach your kids about proper kitchen safety and handling of cooking tools.  You can even incorporate some math concepts into the activity by discussing how to measure ingredients.

Everyone has their favorite pizza toppings and their favorite way of enjoying this American favorite.  Hormel.com features an interactive video that you can watch with your children that includes tips and unique recipes for preparing a delicious pizza with your family.  You can all check out the “Pizza Party” video for some ideas and inspiration on how you can create your own pizza masterpiece.

Did you know that Hormel also has a line of pizza toppings including pepperoni, Italian sausage crumbles and beef crumbles?  Those are definitely some delectable ingredients to help your family create an authentic pizza.  You can check out all of their topping varieties by visiting their website.

What’s your favorite topping combo for your pizzas?  Have you tried the Hormel® line of pizza toppings?
