Lately, all I have been hearing about from my five-year old is how much he loves this show Jake and the Never Land Pirates on the Disney Channel. He told me that he loves that Jake and the Never Land Pirates have a secret hideout that the bad guys cannot get into because it is a secret. My son thinks that Jake is an awesome character because he does “all kinds of cool stuff.”
It wasn’t until I had a chance to check it out for myself that I realized why my son loves it so much. Besides the fact that the characters are entertaining and wholesome, I love that Disney has started to provide programming for younger children that is available throughout the day. In my home, this is especially helpful during those later afternoon/early evening hours when my son likes to unwind and watch a little television before dinner and after he has finished his homework from Pre-Kindergarten. As a matter of fact, Disney is going to be launching a brand new standalone 24-hour Disney Junior channel in 2012!
One of their new programs that we are extremely excited about around here is Jake and the Never Land Pirates! It is a music-filled interactive treasure hunt featuring a crew of kid pirates, led by Jake and pals Izzy and Cubby, who embark on their Never Land adventures as they work to outwit two infamous characters, none other than Captain Hook and Mr. Smee from Disney’s classic “Peter Pan.” Each episode models teamwork, problem-solving, and physical activity for kids while earning the characters gold doubloons as they conquer many tasks. The series features original “pirate rock” music performed by Sharky and Bones of The Never Land Pirate Band.
It’s no surprise that, since its launch this past February, Jake and the Never Land Pirates has been deemed cable’s #1 series for boys ages 2-5 and is on track to become the Disney Channel’s #1 preschool series ever! The show currently is among one of the most co-viewed preschool series, with 45% of moms watching with their preschoolers. The best part is that Disney Junior has given me this opportunity to provide you all with a SNEAK PEEK of their upcoming December holiday episode entitled, “It’s A Winter Never Land!/Hook On Ice.”
In this holiday episode of Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Jake, Izzy and Cubby awake to find that Peter Pan has left the crew some presents and a tree to celebrate Winter Treasure Day, and Captain Hook invites Jake and the crew on a winter treasure hunt. The episode premieres FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2 (8:30-9:00 a.m., ET/PT) on the Disney Channel.
You will quickly fall in love with Jake and all his friends and your preschooler will enjoy meeting and connecting to all of these great characters. Disney continues to connect with generation after generation with its timeless storytelling and beloved characters, both classic and contemporary.
