Here I am, three weeks later, and I still have contractors and electricians working on my house. I am really happy at how all the remodeling is turning out. However, I am about to lose my freaking mind!!! My house is upside down and everything is a complete mess. Any of you who have had work done on the interior of your house knows exactly what I am talking about. Everything had to be moved while the work was being done. I currently have laundry bags in my living room, furniture in my kitchen, toys everywhere…I keep reminding myself that I have nothing to feel guilty about because things are supposed to get messy in a house when you are trying to continue with your daily routine as a working Mom with two young children and remodel at the same time. Unfortunately, I must not be doing a good job of convincing myself because this mess is driving me crazy.
To top it all off, I have to deal with stupid family members who live downstairs in the walk in apartment complaining about how I am inconveniencing them by having the electrician come on such short notice to install the 220 volt outlet that is going to be necessary to power my new dryer. Gosh, I am such a bad person for daring to inconvenience said individual with my frivolous need to have the dryer installed so I can wash my children’s clothes. It’s not like I had the electrician come on short notice to install a decorative fireplace or fishtank that runs on electricity. Do any of you know how much laundry a husband, a 3 year old son, and a 6 year old son can make in a day, never mind a week? So, after arguing with ignorant and immature said individual, I just felt like screaming at the top of my lungs. Have you ever had a battle of the wits with only one set of wits? Picture it…
See these are things that nobody tells you before you start remodeling. They don’t tell you that sheet rock fills and covers everything with this fine white dust that takes days and days of mopping and cleaning to get rid of. They don’t tell you that nobody makes 110 volt dryers anymore and that you have to have a special outlet installed to run the new, high powered, electrical dryers. They especially don’t tell you that just when you are overwhelmed with everything that is going on, stupid relatives are going to bust your chops with their stupid drama. It’s amazing how much free time non working people have on their hands to conjure up problems.
So here I am, venting to all of you, while seething at the insanity of it all. There really is never a dull moment in the life of a working Mom. We have to fit everything into a 24 hour period, working, mothering, being a wife, taking care of the house, cursing out moronic family members, keeping a blog, and finding strength at the end of the day just to take a shower and lift your arm up to brush your teeth. When all of this remodeling is complete, I am having a stiff drink and I’m not even much of a drinker. Anyone want to join me?

Why wait until the remodeling is complete?? I think you need that drink NOW! 🙂 CHEERS!
Charlene, you are so right. I think I will make some time this weekend to have that well deserved drink. Thankfully, I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel as far as the remodeling is concerned. I cannot wait to have my house back.
