Tackle Those Tough Conversations With Your Teen! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad

My oldest son will be graduating from the eighth grade this June.  He has always been very independent and wise for his age even when he was younger.  Now that he is a teenager, we have open conversations about earning privileges and how getting older comes with a lot of responsibility.  There are many hard-to-discuss topics around sexuality and current events that have been made much easier in part thanks to having access to an educational platform like Netflix.       Some of the mature themes that are explored through Netflix original series like One Day At A Time and the dark comedy depicted in A Series of Unfortunate Events have lent themselves organically to some of our most in-depth conversations.  The question that arises with most parents as their kids get older like my son, is how to identify when their kids are ready to watch television shows that contain mature themes or content.  Much of their apprehension stems from … [Read more...]

Celebrate Family This Holiday Season! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad

The beginning of the holiday season has been a whirlwind in our household.  The past couple of weeks have included parent-teacher conferences at my school and the hustle and bustle of planning for Thanksgiving.  As if all that wasn't enough, both of my sons came down with strep throat and my younger one even got an ear infection to boot.  Basically, I've been running around like a chicken without a head and we have tried to keep the joy in everything we are doing despite some of these bumps in the road.     I've really enjoyed being able to spend quality time with my family and those who truly matter in my life. We always get together to celebrate the holidays and, for the past two years, it has become a tradition to spend Thanksgiving at my sister's house.  Not only do we always have a great time, but I love not having to cook and just showing up to eat every year.  My sister is an amazing cook and she always prepares a feast for all … [Read more...]

Help Your Kids Learn Big Lessons! #BeatBugs #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad

Summer is almost over and we are really excited about enjoying the last big weekend of the vacation together as a family for Labor Day.  My ten year-old son absolutely loves the Beat Bugs so we have been practicing his rendition of one of the Beatles most iconic songs.  Not only is it a classic song about love and acceptance, but it's by the legendary Beatles so we are also instilling a love of good music in our kids.     My husband and I believe that music and entertainment are great ways to come together as a family.  That is exactly why one of our favorite things to do is watch shows together and share memories about our childhood with our boys, including the music that we used to listen to when we were younger.       With the new Netflix original series Beat Bugs, inspired by the music of the Beatles, your next family sing-along can be “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” Thanks to five charming and energetic … [Read more...]

Learn New And Interesting Facts With Netflix! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad

As you all know, I am a veteran educator.  This is not always good news for my kids because I always make sure that they keep learning even when they are off during summer vacation.  Since I know they get overwhelmed with schoolwork during the year, I try to make their summer learning as fun as possible.  That is exactly where Netflix comes in!       Netflix helps our family to learn new and interesting facts while watching our favorite shows.  It's amazing the fun information that my sons have learned from watching their favorite programs on Netflix.  From the history of Cleopatra to learning what baking powder vs. baking soda can do to cupcakes, there is virtually no limit to all of the useful things that kids can learn while watching television at the same time.     My sons are ages ten and thirteen so they both have shows that they like to watch on Netflix.  The older one really enjoys Fuller House because he … [Read more...]

What’s The Craziest Place You’ve Watched Netflix? #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad

In the bathroom? Under the covers? Where have you done it?     We know there are only so many times you can hear the Dinotrux theme song before you start sneaking off to binge the new season of Orange is the New Black in the bathtub or "do work in the garage" while you secretly watch Voltron: Legendary Defender. Don't be ashamed, moms and dads, you're definitely not alone.     In our house, it's basically get your Netflix time in whenever you can.  Since we all love watching our favorite shows and we have three televisions in the home, you would think that there would be plenty of opportunities for all of us to watch Netflix.  Unfortunately, my two sons pretty much monopolize two of our TVs and my husband likes to come in from work and take over the living room.  As a result, I often have to sneak my viewing time in every chance I get.     So, since it is time for confessions, I guess I should divulge what some of the craziest places … [Read more...]

Fortune Teller Craft Activity! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad

Although my family and I definitely agree on the fact that we all love Netflix, we sometimes cannot agree on what we should watch next as a family.  We love each other dearly but we have huge differences when it comes to our taste in movies and shows.  Our weekly debates can go from pleasant disagreements to heated debates so we have been looking to find ways to compromise so we can all enjoy what we like to watch.     Since they know getting a collective answer can be easier said than done, Netflix has created an iconic fortune teller to help your family decide what to watch next. Even better, create your own! Fortune Teller Craft Activity How to play: Print out the Fortune Teller and cut (with help!) along the dotted line. Label the outermost triangles 1-8 and add in different genres for each. Then on the inner triangles, fill in your favorite show or movie currently streaming on Netflix that corresponds to each genre. Fold … [Read more...]

Spend A Fuller Night In! #StreamTeam @Netflix #Ad

When it comes to family night in our home, we love to cuddle together in the living room or in my king-sized bed and watch our favorite movies and shows on Netflix.  My husband and I have grown tired of some of the programming on cable and network television because they often contain subject matter that is not always appropriate for younger audiences.  This is not a concern that we have when we watch Netflix because they offer such a wonderful variety of family-friendly entertainment for us to watch.     Growing up, I loved watching Full House because the Tanners were such a loving family and they always had each other's backs whenever one of them had a problem.  That's why I'm so excited to see Kimmy, Stephanie and DJ all grown up and with their own kids on the recent launch of Fuller House.  Although I figured my boys would love meeting this family as much as I loved them when I was a girl, even I wasn't prepared for them to love the … [Read more...]

Is Your Kid A Bedtime Staller? #StreamTeam #5MoreMinutes @Netflix #Ad

My nine year-old son is a master negotiator when it comes to extending his bedtime.  He is always looking for ways to take full advantage of those last "five more minutes."  Since he was diagnosed with epilepsy last May, adhering to a strict bedtime has become even more important because studies show that sleep deprivation can be a trigger for seizures.   Here are some of my little darling's favorite excuses for not going to bed: "I need to go to the bathroom." "When are you going to bed, Mommy?" "I can't sleep without my Teddy Bear." "I'm thirsty and I need a drink of water." "Daddy is snoring too loud and keeping me awake."     It turns out that I am not alone in this struggle of daily bartering.  As a matter of fact, bedtime excuses are universal – more than 60% of parents around the globe are dealing with kids’ stall tactics before bed, adding up to nearly 20 minutes every single night.  Imagine that, not only … [Read more...]
